Event has helped raise funds for 700-plus students
“Tailgating” is the theme for the 23rd annual Scholarship Fest on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the event includes appetizers, live and silent auctions, prize drawings, dinner, games and more.
Gates open at 4 p.m. at the fair grounds.
Appetizers will be served during the afternoon and a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings and dessert will be served around 6:30 p.m.
The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association has been supporting the youth of this county by providing scholarships since 1991.
To date, the fair association has awarded over $424,600 in scholarships to 726 students.

Admission tickets for Scholarship Fest are $20 and are available in advance at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
Children 14 and under are free.
Tickets will also be available at the gate for $20 on Saturday night.
Prizes, auctions, games
The event will also include a drawing for prizes that includes guns (rifles, pistols and ARs), Yeti cooler, jewelry, gift certificates, gift baskets, wine tastings and many other items.
Prize-drawing tickets are being sold in advance and will also be sold at Scholarship Fest.
Winners need not be present to collect their prizes.
Cost of the prize tickets is $5 each or six for $25.
Prize-drawing tickets are also available in advance at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds, from fair directors, at Stroeher and Son/Stroeher and Olfers and at Lochte Feed and General Store.

There will also be games, a silent auction and live auction featuring cakes baked by the 2019 Gillespie County Fair Queen and her court, as well as other items.
