Applications available for fair queen contest
Applications are now available for coeds interested in competing in the 2017 Gillespie County Fair Queen Pageant.
The applications can be picked up in the fair office at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Applications are also available online at www.gillespiefair.com.
Completed applications should be turned in to the fair office or brought to a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at the fair grounds.
Each applicant must be accompanied at the meeting by at least one parent or guardian.
The queen’s pageant is sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc. and will be held as part of the 128th Gillespie County Fair.
The queen’s contest is open to all sophomore and junior girls who attended a Gillespie County high school during the 2015-2016 school year and are enrolled in a Gillespie County high school for the 2016-2017 school year.
Winners of the contest must maintain good academic standing throughout their reign.
Contestants must have written consent from a parent or legal guardian and submit with their application a photograph to be used for publicity purposes.
A complete set of rules is included in the application packet.
A rehearsal for all applicants will be held at the fair grounds at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25.
At least one parent or legal guardian is asked to attend the rehearsal.
Contestants will ride on a float that will be provided in the parade on Friday, Aug. 26, and will be interviewed later in the day by a panel of out-of-town judges.
The 2017 Gillespie County Fair Queen and her court will be crowned during ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26.
The queen’s pageant is part of the 128th Gillespie County Fair, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 25-28.
The queen and her court will represent the fair association throughout the year in many parades and various other functions, and will make blanket presentations to winners at the 2017 horse racing meets at the fair grounds.
The reigning Gillespie County Fair Queen is Julie Krebs. Duchesses are Rachel Rothermel, Jaleigh Brown and Marah Graef.
Dennis Loth is the current chairman of the float committee, and Maxine Jung and Brian Roeder are co-chairmen.
