Appel to headline PCAA Concert Series on Sunday
Bob Appel will headline the next Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance Concert Series on Marktplatz on Sunday, Aug. 26.
He will be performing at 6:30 p.m. at the Adelsverein Halle on Marktplatz.
Those attending are reminded to bring their lawn chairs, picnics, family and friends.
With unlikely roots for a country singer, Northern California native Bob Appel was exposed to the neo-traditional country sounds of Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, George Strait, Dwight Yoakam and Aaron Tippin as a teen, explained a spokesman.
“It took years to appreciate the poetic story-telling, simple musical structure, and heartfelt vocal performance evident in their songs, and to understand that there was a common source of inspiration — one steeped in country music traditions from prior generations,” the spokesman said.
After a few visits to the “home of country music,” he said he was disillusioned by the commercialism he witnessed in the impersonal and overblown stadium shows, selling songs that capitalize on modern trends rather than respecting country music’s rich tradition.
After one visit to Austin, Appel found music brought back to the basics, on a small stage with a small audience — a participatory audience with diverse ways of appreciating traditional country music, whether two-stepping and waltzing, tapping a foot, singing along, marveling at the fiddle and steel, or simply reminiscing, the spokesman said.
Closing out the 2018 PCAA Concert Series on Marktplatz on Sunday, Sept. 9, will be an Oktoberfest favorite — Chris Rybak.
This concert is designed to put everyone in the mood for the PCAA’s Oktoberfest, which will be celebrating its 38th anniversary Oct. 5-7.
Concerts are made possible by the proceeds from Oktoberfest, and are the PCAA’s way of thanking the community for coming out to support and/or volunteer for Oktoberfest.
