FFA group concludes Scotland tour
The Fredericksburg Future Farmers of America Livestock Judging Team recently took their skills to international heights as they traveled to compete at the Royal Highlands Agriculture Fair in Edinburg, Scotland, on June 23.
The team – composed of Lindsey Behrends, Reed Sultemeier, Bryce Bowers and Brant Bowers – earned their ticket to compete against teams from Scotland by first being named the Texas FFA Livestock Judging champions in 2017. From there, the team traveled to the National FFA contest in Indianapolis, Indiana in October of 2017. The team ranked third nationally, earning a spot to compete in Scotland.
At the Royal Highlands Agriculture Fair, the team placed first in the sheep division and third in the beef cattle division, making them the first-place team overall.
Bryce Bowers was named high-point individual in the sheep division.
The Fredericksburg team competed against two teams from the United States — one from Indiana and one from California, and the top judging teams from Scotland.
“The most rewarding thing about the trip was being able to compete and succeed on the international level,” Sultemeier said.
In addition to competing, the group was able to tour many farms and popular sites along the way.
