We are pleased to see so much support for the Fredericksburg Independent School District’s $9.3-million bond issue, which will be on the May 5 ballot, along with choices for school board and a city election to choose a mayor and two council members.
Everyone — conservative, liberal and all shades in between — seems to be on board to help the district make upgrades for buses, HVAC and technology, along with other maintenance items. This year, FISD already will send more than $10 million to the state for recapture, as part of our school funding system. A “yes” vote will let FISD keep that money local.
FISD has used its resources wisely. The trustees, the staff and the students deserve our support.
Supporting public education is one of the most basic things we must do as a society. It was the dream of Maribeau B. Lamar and it is in our state constitution. An educated populace helps keep democracy healthy.
Vote “yes” to the school bond on May 5. — K.E.C.
