Home Simple Goods + Design brings comfort, affordability home

Growing up in the Kerrville area and having a desire to return home, Christina Atkinson decided to make the move from Jackson, Wyoming, and open up Home Simple Goods + Design, a furniture and design store.

Atkinson soon teamed up with Candy Vidrine, who has lived in Fredericksburg for the past 11 years.

“It’s a perfect partnership with her background in design and her knowledge of the Fredericksburg area,” Atkinson.

“We kind of share the same brain. It is crazy, but we are so passionate about this,” Vidrine said.

Home Simple Goods + Design planted its roots on the west end of town in the old Crenwelge auto dealership building but soon came to find that they wanted to be a part of the Historic District and will soon be opening their new location at 109 North Adams Street, the former home of Chämpe Jennings Jewelry.

While the North Adams location is under construction, the West Main Street location is offering a storewide sale.

Simple styles

Vidrine and Atkinson both love simple, modern styles.

Much of their store furniture gives a nod to Western styles Atkinson saw while in Jackson, in addition to midcentury styles. The duo wants their furniture pieces to work in a home from the 1800s as well as homes that have been built in the last year.

“My approach is always simple and true to where I live,” Atkinson. “We don’t want things that are too fussy. Everything we sell is life proof and is affordable.”

Pieces can be purchased off the floor or the team has the ability to order and get it to customers in as little as two days.

The store will also have a full array of fabrics for those looking to design custom pieces, a variety of pillow lines, rugs, lamps and more.

“We want to offer and sell the same things that we have in our own homes right here in the store,” Vidrine said.

“I love designing people’s homes but I don’t want to give them sticker shock,” Atkinson added.

The duo also specializes in preparing homes to be used as short-term rentals or second homes.

“Jackson is very much a secondhome community, so I got to dive right in and furnish people’s homes, sometimes almost overnight since we carried so much in stock,” Atkinson said.

More than furniture

In addition to selling furniture pieces, Home Simple Goods + Design also offers custom interior decorating services.

Atkinson has been an interior decorator for over 20 years and has traveled extensively to add her touch in people’s homes.

“I love that creative element and it just feels like the most natural thing I have ever done,” Atkinson.

Vidrine adds another 13 years of interior decorating experience.

“There is something so gratifying being able to help a client and make their home something they want to come home to,” Vidrine said.

When customers walk into the store, they hope they create more than just a design but create customer connections.

“We want to be a part of everything that happens in the store, so when people walk in, they feel like they are getting a one-on-one experience,” Atkinson said. “People want to know who they are working with and trust them with making financial decisions in their home.”

“We want to know our locals by name,” Vidrine added. “We want people to trust us with the inside of their home.”
