Itz Styles strives to be a cut above others

Owner says customers love friendliness, cleanliness

When LaShea Munn opened her hair salon on April 24, she decided to incorporate her maiden name into the business moniker: Itz Styles Salon.

“Itz is a big name in this town and well known, and I’ve always marketed myself as ‘Itz Styles’ since I started doing hair,” she said. “I wanted to keep the name in the city since I know there are quite a few businesses here. I love my maiden name, but I love my new last name, also.”

Itz Styles Salon is at 709 East Main Street, in a build-ing that used to be a plumbing shop.

Munn describes the process of getting the salon opened as one with “a lot of renovation and cleaning out.”

“It took about three months,” she said. “We talked to the plumbers and they wanted to downgrade as well and not have as much space. We made them a little smaller office, and they were happy to have us here. We decided to clean out and get things moving.”

Among the services Itz Styles offers include hair cuts for adult and children, hair coloring, makeup, blowouts and styles, eyebrow and lip waxes. Their most common service is doing hair for wedding parties, proms and dances.

“We do colors well, but we specialize in everything,” Munn said.

They carry both R+Co and Stella & Dot hair care products. Her employees include hairstylists Jamie Laratta, Melodi Schlueter, Gloria Parker and makeup artist Maci James.

“Our customers like the cleanliness,” Munn said. “They like how open it is and how happy we are. We’re sweet and don’t talk down to each other, and we do a lot of team work. Everyone sees that and that we mesh very well.”

She described the salon market in town as “competitive.”

“When you have stylists, they have their own clientele that follows them,” she said. “And so they bring every-thing to the table. Marketing and social media help also. We put our pictures online and on Facebook. We’re big into pictures. It helps a lot with getting more people in here. We also rely on word of mouth.”

Munn said she’s always looking to expand her business, even though they currently are happy with how things are going. In the future, they may add another station in the salon.
