Ten new signs were dedicated Thursday, Jan. 11 at Fort Martin Scott. The Gillespie County Republican Party contributed almost $10,000 to cover the cost of sign replacements marking historical details and facts at the fort after the previous signs became unreadable due to age and weathering. James McDonald spearheaded the fundraising efforts. Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors joined members of the party with a ribbon cutting marking installation of the new signate. The City of Fredericksburg will celebrate the 175th anniversary of Fort Martin Scott this year, with a special event planned for March 8-9. More information will be released soon.
