ERNA SCHMIDT SCHNEIDER

June 27, 1918 – May 11, 2013

Erna Frieda Schneider, age 94, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at her residence in the Cherry Spring community.

Born on June 27, 1918, in the Rheingold community, she was the youngest of six children born to Alfred L. Schmidt and Else Grasso Schmidt.

Her funeral was held Wednesday, May 15, at 2 p.m., at Beckmann Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Vitek of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment followed in the Schneider family cemetery at Cherry Spring.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.

Jack Schwarz

 

Jack Schwarz, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, May 6, 2013.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 8, at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Pam Traver officiating. Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment of the cremains is planned at a later date in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio.

Schwarz was born Richard Jack Schwarz on Jan. 21, 1926, in San Antonio, the son of Arthur Louis Schwarz and Rossy Rebecca Meadows Schwarz. He married Audrey Mae Williams on Aug. 31, 1973, in Jourdanton and she survives.

Schwarz worked for and retired from the Texas Animal Health Commission.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in San Antonio.

A U.S. Army veteran, Schwarz served from July 1, 1943, to April 23, 1959, and was discharged with the rank of captain. He received numerous awards and citations for his service.

Ramon Serrato


RAMON SERRATO

 

Ramon Serrato, 77, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation and a rosary service were held Friday evening, May 10.

Serrato was born July 14, 1935, in Harlingen, the son of Jesus Serrato and Eulalia Guzman Serrato. He married Petra Hernandez on Jan. 30, 1976, in Fredericksburg, and she survives.

For many years, he worked at Allen Keller Co. with the survey crew. After retirement, he worked at the local McDonalds.

Mrs. Edward Stehling

 

Mrs. Edward Stehling, 90, nee Viola Ersch of Fredericksburg, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, from 4-7 p.m., and Friday, May 17, from 7-9:45 a.m., in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

A vigil service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 9:45 a.m., Friday, May 17.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Comfort Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Comfort, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or to the charity of choice.

Darryl Weisenbaugh


DARRYL WEISENBAUGH

 

Darryl James Weisenbaugh, 63, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at University Hospital in San Antonio. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at Liberty Lighthouse Fellow­ship in Johnson City with interment following in the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City where visitation was held Friday evening, May 10.

Weisenbaugh was born May 1, 1950, in Wayne, Mich., the son of George and Marion Weisenbaugh. He married Sharon Russell on Nov. 9, 1968, and she survives.

A 1968 graduate of John Glenn High School, Weisen­baugh served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 9, 1969, until Nov. 13, 1971, and was deployed to Korea. He was discharged as a Specialist 5, wheeled vehicle mechanic.

In the obituary of Herbert (Sonny) Barsch, that was published in the May 8 edition of the Standard-Radio Post, the name of his surviving sister, Lina Kuhlmann, was inadvertently omitted.

Paul A. Oestreich

Fredericksburg Police Chief Paul A. Oestreich, 60, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in a San Antonio hospital.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 12, from 3-7 p.m., at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, and on Monday, May 13, from 7-8:15 a.m., in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church from 9-10 a.m., Monday, May 13.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, at 10 a.m., at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.

Graveside services and interment, with honors, will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, The 100 Club or to the charity of choice.

Herbert Barsch

Herbert Alvin (Sonny) Barsch, 83, of Somerset, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in San Antonio.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 20, at Oak Island United Methodist Church in San Antonio, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Barsch was born July 24, 1929, in the Cave Creek community of Gillespie County, the son of Charles Barsch and Lydia Duecker Barsch. He attended Stonewall and Fredericks­burg schools before moving to San Antonio.

After graduating from Fox Tech High School, Barsch joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he was a civil service employee at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Barsch married Charlotte Jesse Harris in 1953. After her death, he married Ada Lavanda Crews in 1959. She is also deceased.

Mrs. Gustave Biermann

Mrs. Gustave Biermann, 102, nee Estelle Flach, of Comfort, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Trinity Mission Healthcare and Rehab Center in Comfort.

Graveside services and interment were held Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. in the Comfort Cemetery with the Rev. Carolyn McGuire officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.

Mrs. Flach was born Feb. 26, 1911, in Comfort, the daughter of Alfred E. Flach Sr. and Daisy Carrie Simpson Flach. She married Gustave Biermann on Aug. 31, 1930, in Comfort. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Flach attended San Antonio Business College and will be remembered as one of the phone operators for the Comfort Telephone Company.

She was also active in the Sewing Club as well as the Comfort PTA.

Survivors include one daughter, one son and spouses, Carrie and Milton Ersch and Bobbie and Jeanne Biermann, all of Comfort.

Lurlene Esser

Lurlene Modgling Esser, 46, of Kerrville, died Friday, May 3, 2013.

Services will be held Friday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at Wrights Funeral Parlor in Kerrville.

Mrs. Esser was born Dec. 19, 1966, in New Braunfels, the daughter of Nahum and Sandra Modgling. She married David Esser on March 20, 1993, in Austin, and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Esser is survived by four children, including Larissa Herring, Dusti Esser, Amanda Esser and Cobey Esser, and five grandchildren.

She is also survived by her mother, Sandra Modgling; and two sisters and three brothers, including Betty Jean Frances, Nahum Bert Modgling Jr., Randy Modg­ling, Laura Satterfield and Matthew Modgling.

Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice.
