Henry Louis Herbort

Henry Louis Herbort, 78, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, June 8, 2013.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Cave Creek.

Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Kenneth C. Kuhlmann

SMSgt. Kenneth C. (Ken) Kuhlmann (USAF, ret.) of Schertz, died Sunday, June 2, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at the Schertz United Methodist Church, 3460 Roy Richard Dr., Schertz, Texas 78154.

Memorials may be made to the Schertz United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schertz Funeral Home and Crematory in Schertz.

Mrs. Reuben Land


ANTOINETTE LAND

Mrs. Reuben (Spreckles) Land, 89, nee Antoinette Louise (Toots) Herbort of Fredericksburg, died Monday, June 3, 2013, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home with Joe Brown officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Friday evening and Saturday morning before the funeral.

Mrs. Land was born June 4, 1923, in New Braunfels. She married Reuben (Spreckles) Land on July 4, 1942, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1985.

She is survived by one son, two daughters and spouses, including Linda and Bernard Weynand of Rock Springs, Wy., Marc and Bonnie Land, and Gina Maurer, all of Fredericksburg.

Survivors also include five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Land was preceded in death by her mother, Meta Herbort.

Walton A. Langehennig

Walton A. Langehennig, 90, of San Antonio, died Friday, June 7, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated today, Wednesday, June 12, at 11 a.m., at Holy Name Catholic Church in San Antonio with interment following at Mission Burial Park South.

Memorials may be made to the St. Margaret Mary Capital Campaign Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mission Park Funeral Chapels.

Christine McFall


CHRISTINE McFALL

Christine McFall, 62, nee Kmet, of Gillespie County and formerly of Romulus, Mich., died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. McFall was born Aug. 2, 1950, in Ypsilanti, Wayne County, Michigan, the daughter of Louis Kmet and Virginia Grishaber Kmet. She married Wesley McFall on Aug. 2, 1990, in Toledo, Ohio, and he survives.

Prior to retiring in September 2005, she worked for Household Finance Great Lakes for 37 years.

She was a lifetime member of the American Volkssport Association and had participated in 477 events, covering over 8000 kilometers in 41 states.

An avid birder with the Texas Ornithological Society, Mrs. McFall had a life list of 385 species.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McFall is survived by her mother, Virginia Kmet, and sister, Mona Lee Jackson, both of Romulus, Mich.

Her father preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ernest F. Peeler


ERNEST F. PEELER

Ernest F. Peeler, 54, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in a San Antonio hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Peeler was born Jan. 14, 1959, in San Antonio, the son of Ernest Peeler and Frances Tucker Peeler. He married Nelda Ormond on May 15, 1995, in San Antonio and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Peeler is survived by four daughters, two sons and spouses, including Eric Peeler of Arizona; Shawn and Chelsea Peeler, San Antonio; Stephanie Scott, Fredericksburg; April and Tim Twitchell, Kingwood; Megan Peeler and Ren Cardenas, San Antonio, and Pamela and Colby Blaylock, Huffman.

Carol Douglas Thompson


CAROL DOUGLAS THOMPSON

Carol Douglas Thompson, 93, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, May 31, 2013.

Graveside services and interment were held Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lake City, Fla.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Tuesday evening, June 4.

Mrs. Thompson was born Jan. 8, 1920, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Lionel Johns and Helen Barnes Johns. She married James L. Thompson Jr. on Aug. 9, 1941. He preceded her in death.

Over the years, Mrs. Thompson lived in New Hampshire, Florida, Alaska, Connecticut and the Philippines. She moved to Fredericksburg seven years ago.

She is survived by two sons, one daughter and spouses, including Jim and Mary Thompson of Fredericksburg, Ed and Pat Thompson of Jacksonville, Fla. and Carole and Mike McWhorter of Loganville, Ga.

Sherman D. Durst of Fredericksburg passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home, at the age of 60 years.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m., at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Graveside services and interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Eric Zey, Charles Kiehne, Jamie Sparks, Bill Rank, Bob Surma, Jim Thomas, Gavin Cain and Caleb Hail

Honorary pallbearers were Austin, Kyle, Mallory, Katy and Kimmy Durst, Rex Weinheimer and Ryan Wille.

Visitation was held Thursday evening, May 30, and Friday morning, May 31, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home, and at the church before the funeral.

Sherman was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on Sept. 13, 1952.

August 7, 1948 - June 5, 2013

Deborah Lee Howard left this physical world on June 5, 2013 after a brave year-long battle against Leiomyosarcoma.

Born Aug. 7, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the first born to William A. and Darleene Howard.

After graduating from Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas, she went on to study at Stephen F. Austin College. She then began her career in the travel industry in Houston, Texas, working for Trans Texas Airlines, Braniff International and then Northwest Orient in New Orleans.

In 1981, she joined American International Travel Services in New Orleans, serving as chairman and later president of the company.

LeeRoy Hugo Besier, 82, of Kingwood, passed away May 26, 2013.

He was born July 7, 1930, in Fredericksburg, TX to Hugo and Charlotte “Lottie” Besier, who preceded him in death.

LeeRoy was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Erline Schneider Besier, and his two brothers, Raymond and James Besier.

LeeRoy is survived by children, Travis Besier and wife, Jan; Karen Pulpan and husband, Cliff, and Steve Besier; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

LeeRoy served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956. Following his years of service, LeeRoy became an Air Traffic Controller working in San Antonio and then Houston, retiring with more than 35 years of service.
