Esperanza M. Holford

A celebration of life for Esperanza M. Holford, who died May 6, 2013, will be held Wednesday, July 3, from 3-5 p.m. at the Post Oak School House, located on FM 2721, in Blanco County.

A complete obituary was published in the May 15 edition of the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post.

Arrangements were under the direction of Crofts Funeral Home of Johnson City.

Kenneth (Ken) C. Kuhlmann

February 10, 1932 - June 2, 2013

Kenneth (Ken) C. Kuhlmann, SMSgt USAF (Ret), was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on Feb. 10, 1932 and died June 2, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wanda Kuhlmann, and a granddaughter, Clarissa Kuhlmann. 

A distinguished 22-year Air Force veteran, Ken served in Guam, Okinawa, Greenland, Turkey and Thailand. In addition to nine tours of duty at bases in the states, he also served as an AF Recruiter.

After retiring from the military he served as a Department Manager for Sides Supply, the Amana distributor for south Texas; retiring after 20 years.

Walton A. Langehennig, known by all as Wally, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family June 7, 2013 at the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Verena E. Stehling Langehennig; his four daughters, Janet Jendrzey, Jeanne Borlinghaus (Roger), Diane Mudd (Mike), and Julie Schreiner (Ron); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Kermit Langehennig (Billi Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Regina (Thiele) Langehennig and brothers, Victor, Andrew and Oliver.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1922 in Fredericksburg, Texas and grew up there.

Wally served his country in the Army Air Corp June 25, 1943 to Feb. 25, 1946. He retired from Kelly Air Base in San Antonio in 1980 after 38 years of civil service.

Carol Lee Burgess Lea, 80, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at a local medical center in Abilene.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, at Beltway Park Baptist Church in Abilene, with Pastor David McQueen officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene.

The family received friends at a visitation from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers were Stephen F. Owen, Austin L. Owen, Michael F. Owen, Rick M. Burgess, Cary A. Burgess, and Joshua H. Carter.  Honorary pallbearer was Ken Burgess.

Betty Jean Lochte Von Minden

Betty Jean Lochte Von Minden, 78, of Spring, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013.

A memorial mass was held Monday, May 13, a 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring.

Interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of Klein Champions Funeral Home, Houston.

Mrs. Von Minden was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Ernst Lochte and Theresa Kunz Lochte. She married William A. (Bill) Von Minden in 1954 and he survives.

A 1952 St. Mary’s High School graduate, Mrs. Von Minden continued her education at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio.

In earlier years, she worked for an insurance company and the Federal Reserve Bank.

She was a past member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a Girl Scout leader and manned a USO office at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

Alma ‘Marie’ (Weirich) Williams

1921-2013

Alma “Marie” (Weirich) Williams passed away on March 22, 2013, in San Mateo County, California.

“Marie” was born on June 28, 1921 in Johnson City, Texas to Alvina and Henry J. Weirich. She was the youngest of their seven children reared in Fredericksburg and Johnson City. A graduate of Johnson City High School class of 1939, she was Salutatorian, FFA sweetheart, and many other accomplishments. She left for San Antonio for business school after graduation. She worked for Pedernales Electric Company and as an executive secretary for the Continental Oil Company.

Verdie LaRaine Yarbrough


VERDIE YARBROUGH

Verdie LaRaine Yarbrough, 100, of Canyon, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Amarillo.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Chapel in Canyon with Terry Callis officiating.

Interment followed at Moorewood Cemetery in Moorewood, Okla.

Yarbrough was born Aug. 31, 1912, near Leedey, Okla., the son of Brackston and Bertha Yarbrough. He married Velma Boyer on Aug. 14, 1937. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 1978. He remarried on Feb. 20, 1980, to Georgia Kays. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2011.

A 1931 graduate of Liberty Center High School in Oklahoma, Yarbrough farmed and ranched in the Texas Panhandle.

After retiring in 1978, he moved to Hammon, Okla., and last fall, to Umbarger, Texas.

Ronald Armstrong

Ronald Armstrong, 62, of Albuquerque, N.M. and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home.

Interment with military honors followed at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Alsace Lorraine Feuge

Alsace Lorraine Feuge, 94, nee Mogford, of Austin, died April 13, 2013, at St. David’s Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in New Orleans, La.

Interment of the ashes will follow at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery and Mausoleum, New Orleans, La.

Mrs. Feuge was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Henry F. Mogford and Meta Kusen­berger Mogford. She was the youngest of 11 children.

She married Reuben Otto Feuge of Fredericksburg on May 31, 1941, and they moved to New Orleans, La. where he was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

After his death, she remained in New Orleans until moving to Austin as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

Mrs. Feuge is survived by her son, Reuben M. Feuge of Poplarville, Miss., and daughter, Evelyn Janet Boyer of Austin, and one grand­daughter.

Mrs. Francis J. Fritz


MRS. FRANCIS J. FRITZ

Mrs. Francis J. Fritz, 89, nee Helen Bertha Maurer of Harper, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Hilltop Village in Kerrville.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harper with the Rev. Mike Peinemann officiating. Peggy Ernst was organist and Cookie Wilke, vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was held Saturday morning at the church, prior to a rosary service that began at 1 p.m.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fritz was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Harper, the daughter of Henry Maurer and Anna Gammenthaler Maurer. She married Francis Jacob Fritz on April 26, 1944, in Harper. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the cafeteria staff in the Harper Independent School District and was a school bus driver, as well.
