Mrs. Walter P. Sheppard

Mrs. Walter P. Sheppard, 85, nee Barbara Daly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m., in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends before the service, from 2-3 p.m.

Interment of her cremains will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Hill Country SPCA or to the charity of choice.

Mike Terrazas


MIKE TERRAZAS

Mike Terrazas, 61, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Garcia officiating.

Private interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Visitation was held Friday evening, Sept. 27, at the funeral chapel.

Terrazas was born Nov. 9, 1951, in Torren, Mexico, the son of Miguel Angel Terrazas and Maria Ramos Terrazas. He married Virginia Salinas on May 17, 2002, in Kerrville, and she survives.

He worked in automotive sales at Crenwelge Motors in Kerrville.

Henry Ford Umphress


HENRY FORD UMPHRESS

Henry Ford Umphress, 59, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Chaplain William Carlson officiating. Visitation was held beforehand.

Graveside services and interment of his cremains will take place at a later date.

Umphress was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Kilgore, the son of Neal Umphress and Dorothy Ford Umphress. He married Shawn Mangum on Nov. 21, 1997, in Fredericksburg and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Umphress is survived by two daughters and four sons, including Kendra Lee Bryan, of Fredericksburg; Megan Svataek and her husband, Mark, Florida; Quinton Neal Umphress, Garrett George Umphress and Robert Maya, all of California.

Survivors also include six grandchildren.

Harry F. Moldenhauer, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, from 4-7 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 30, from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel, and from noon to 1 p.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Graveside services with military honors and interment will follow at the Grapetown Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Golden Hub Senior Center, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Honor Flight or to the charity of choice.

Lee Harry Eckhardt

Lee Harry Eckhardt, 80, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5-8 p.m., in the chapel at Beckmann Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Bethany Lutheran Church or the Tori Eckhardt Scholarship Fund.

Margarete Pfiester Franz


MARGARETE FRANZ

Margarete Pfiester Franz, 72, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013.

Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 4-7 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio.

Graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m. at Mission Burial Park North, San Antonio.

Mrs. Franz was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Gillespie County, the daughter of Felix and Frida Pfiester. She married Richard Franz on Jan. 10, 1941, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2013.

Over the years, the couple lived in San Antonio, and upon his retirement 25 years ago, they moved back to Fredericksburg.

While living in San Antonio, she was active with her children’s schools and her church. She was also an election judge for many years.

Chester David Griggs


DAVID GRIGGS

Chester David Griggs, 61, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Dallas.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at Fredericksburg Bible Church with the Rev. Jeremy Thomas officiating.

Private disposition of the cremains by the family is planned at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Griggs was born Sept. 3, 1952. After battling heart disease for many years, he became a heart transplant recipient on June 16, 2013, and had been staying with family in Belton in order to be closer to his medical team.

He is survived by his wife, Regina Klein Griggs of Fredericksburg; five daughters, one son and spouses, including Felicia and David Elrod of Belton; Emily Griggs, Dallas; Samantha and Jeffery Kment, Michigan; Mark Griggs, Comfort; Helen Griggs, Dallas, and Michelle Lange, Fredericksburg.

JOANN HOUY

JoAnn Houy, 56, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Pam Traver officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening at the funeral chapel.

Ms. Houy was born Dec. 9, 1956, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Elburnie Houy and Elsie Rabke Houy.

She was a Fredericksburg High School graduate and worked at Dairy Queen for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 244 Auxiliary, Living Well College, Meals on Wheels or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Kenneth Schuessler, Mike Dexter, Clint Houy, Leonard Mitschke, Connie Eckhardt and Erlene Dexter.

Pearl Viola Smith Land


PEARL SMITH LAND

Pearl Viola Smith Land, 85, of San Antonio, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, followed by a memorial service at St. John Lutheran Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of Alamo Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Sept. 19.

Mrs. Land was born May 22, 1928, at Stonewall, the daughter of Marvin and Selma Smith. She married Clifton H. Land who preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children and spouses, including Patricia and Keith Jenkins, Roger and Jeannette Land, Randall and Carol Land and Pamela and Walter Boyd.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret, and one brother, Marvin.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
