Pearl Viola Smith Land


PEARL SMITH LAND

Pearl Viola Smith Land, 85, of San Antonio, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, followed by a memorial service at St. John Lutheran Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of Alamo Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Sept. 19.

Mrs. Land was born May 22, 1928, at Stonewall, the daughter of Marvin and Selma Smith. She married Clifton H. Land who preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children and spouses, including Patricia and Keith Jenkins, Roger and Jeannette Land, Randall and Carol Land and Pamela and Walter Boyd.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret, and one brother, Marvin.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.

Mrs. Victor Lich

Mrs. Victor Lich, 86, nee Thelma Zoeller, of Comfort, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated today, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort with interment following in the Comfort Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Cypress Creek Community Center, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.

Hubert Hue Nixon

Hubert Hue Nixon, 91, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. William Karlson officiating.

Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date.

Nixon was born Sept. 17, 1921, in London, Texas, the son of Reuben Nixon and Seme Lange Nixon. He married Louise M. Oestreich on Nov. 13, 1955. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2005.  

Nixon served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning numerous commendations and medals for his service.

After the war, he attended college at Sul Ross, and then found his true calling and passion as an educator, teaching in Willow City for several years before teaching science in the Fredericksburg Independent School District from 1958-1984.

Mike Terrazas

Mike Terrazas, 62, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 27, from 7-8 p.m. in the chapel at Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Private interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Grace Family Church of Fredericksburg, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of choice.

Henry Ford Umphress

Henry Ford Umphress, 59, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Graveside services and interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Lorenzo C. (Lee) Welch


LORENZO C. (LEE) WELCH

Lorenzo C. (Lee) Welch, 44, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, as the result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating.

Interment of the cremains followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday morning prior to the funeral.

Welch was born June 10, 1969, in New Braunfels, the son of Leland Welch and Bernice Kramer Welch.

He was a 1988 Fredericksburg High School graduate, and served in the Texas Army National Guard from 1987-1999.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Welch of Liberty; his mother, Bernice Welch of Fredericksburg, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sonya and Randy Rosenbusch of Harper.

Welch was preceded in death by his father.

Kenneth Ray Wilkinson

Kenneth Ray Wilkinson, 65, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in an Austin hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 4-7 p.m., and Thursday, Sept. 26, from 7-8:15 a.m.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home, until 8:15 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, and from 9-10 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church where the funeral will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, the Doss Volunteer Fire Department, the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of choice.

Chester David Griggs

Chester David Griggs, 61, of Belton and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., at Fredericksburg Bible Church.

Memorials may be made to the Ark House, P.O. Box 833656, Richardson, TX  75083.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4-9 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo, San Antonio, Texas 78215.

Interment will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Following the interment, a memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva in San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to Hearing Loss Association of San Antonio, 515 Edgebrook Lane, San Antonio, Texas  78213.

John J. Lehman

John J. Lehman, 94, of Fredericksburg and formerly of La Grange, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Lehman was born May 10, 1919, in Bradford, Penn., the son of George Joseph Lehman and Theresa Ledden Lehman. He married Margaret Bach on May 5, 1945. She preceded him in death.

During World War II, Lehman was a lieutenant in the United States Navy.

He was a chemical engineer and retired as vice-president of sales with Koch Industries.

He is survived by two daughters, two sons and spouses, including Elizabeth and Al Napier and Jeff and Lori Lehman, all of Fredericksburg; Jim Lehman of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kathi and Kelly Toombs of Prairie Village, Kan.; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
