John Ray Pierce

John Ray Pierce, 90, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Fredericksburg Nursing Home.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet, under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home of Abilene.

Pierce was born July 21, 1923, in Carbon. He married Agner Muler who preceded him in death.

A longtime Burnet County resident, Pierce was retired from the Lower Colorado River Authority. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cora Pierce of Abilene; a brother, Aaron Pierce of Houston; two sisters, Elizabeth Lanningham and Vergie Mahoney, both of the Dallas area, and numerous grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Pierce was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Faulkner, and two brothers.

Mrs. Perry Priess


MRS. PERRY PRIESS

Mrs. Perry Priess, 86, nee Frances Haler, of Mason, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Windcrest Nursing Home in Fredericksburg.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason with interment following in Gooch Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mason Funeral Home where visitation was held Tuesday evening, Nov. 5.

Mrs. Priess was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Mason, the daughter of George Haler and Grace Ledbetter Haler. She married Perry Priess on Dec. 25, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death.

Over the years, Mrs. Priess participated in the women’s organizations at her church.

She is survived by one son, two daughters and spouses, including Danny and Doris Priess of Sunrise Beach; Kay Parrot, Coleman, and Brenda and John Miller, Kerrville; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Nell Ramsey


DOROTHY NELL RAMSEY

Dorothy Nell Ramsey, 92, nee Mosley, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.

Services will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Lost Creek Vineyard tasting room, 1129 Ranch Road 2233, Sunrise Beach.

Mrs. Ramsey was born Oct. 29, 1921. She married Max Eldon Ramsey who preceded her in death.

She was a Baylor University graduate and a trained dietician. She lived in Fredericksburg from 1999-2006.

A vocalist and former president of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs, Mrs. Ramsey was dedicated to preserving music and performing arts programs for students. 

Mrs. Ramsey is survived by three children, including Paige Ramsey-Palmer of San Antonio; Carolyn Ramsey Cole, San Pablo, Calif., and Max Eldon Ramsey Jr., Marble Falls; seven granddaughters, and eight great-grandchildren.

Winston J. (Sy) Simonsen


W.J. (SY) SIMONSEN

Winston J. (Sy) Simonsen, 84, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Reverends Casey Zesch, Travis Meier, Elliot Pancoast and Richard Wagner officiating.

Marjorie Ottmers was the organist; Bill Smallwood, trumpeter; Tyler Simonsen and Kathleen Rae, the vocalists and Brent Carr, guitarist.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Nov. 7.

Simonsen was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Kimballton, Iowa, the son of Arthur Simonsen and Margaret Jersild Simonsen. His family moved to Texas when he was three years old.

After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, he enrolled at the University of Texas, and while there, joined the United States Air Force.

Kathryn (Kathy) Beyer


KATHY BEYER

Kathryn Johanna (Kathy) Beyer, 67, nee Dearing, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Austin Heart Hospital in Austin.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Hartmann officiating. Jui-Chen Haung was the organist, and Pam Hartmann, the vocalist.

Interment followed at Christ Lutheran Cemetery at Cherry Spring.

Arrangements were under the direction of Beckmann Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Oct. 31.

Mrs. Beyer was born Jan. 16, 1946, in the Cherry Spring community, the daughter of Edgar Dearing and Paula Crenwelge Dearing. She married Glenn Beyer on May 18, 1964, at Christ Lutheran Church at Cherry Spring, and he survives.

The Beyers made their home in San Antonio where she worked for USAA. They then moved to Kerrville before moving back to Fredericksburg in 1976.

Mrs. Andy Davis

Mrs. Andy Davis, 83, nee Elizabeth Ann West of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehab.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 4-6 p.m., and Thursday, Nov. 7, from 7-11 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of choice.

Correction

In the obituary of Guenther A. (G.A.) Heimann who died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, that was published in the Oct. 30 edition of the Standard-Radio Post, information submitted for the obituary incorrectly listed one of the pallbearers as Lawton Heimann when he should have been listed as Lawton Klein.

DORIS JEAN KENYON

Doris Jean Kenyon, 70, nee Tinney, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, in a San Antonio hospital.

A celebration of life was held Sunday, Oct. 27, at noon at 255 Elizabeth Road.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Ms. Kenyon was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Mason County, the daughter of James (Bud) Tinney and Lonie Emma Novian Tinney.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Pat Straube of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Hill Country Memorial Home Health Care or to the charity of choice.

Rosa Lee Oehler


ROSA LEE OEHLER

Rosa Lee Oehler, 96, nee Smith, of Austin and formerly of Harper, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. at Harper United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Matthews officiating. Marjorie Ottmers was the organist.

Interment followed in the Harper City Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the church before the funeral.

Arrangements were under the direction of Beckmann Funeral Home.

Mrs. Oehler was born June 24, 1917, at Mountain Home, the daughter of Augustus Smith and Rosa T. Palmer Smith. She married Herman Karl Oehler on June 11, 1938, in Junction. He preceded her in death in 1988.

She was a graduate of Tivy High School in Kerrville.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Lee McCowan and Marie Elaine Moore, both of Austin, as well as eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
