Mrs. Charles Wayne Modrall

Mrs. Charles Wayne Modrall, 73, nee Kathy Bibby, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in a San Antonio hospital.

Graveside services and interment were held Friday, Oct. 4, at 5 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery with Gary Colvin officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Modrall was born Jan. 8, 1940, in West Newton, Penn., the daughter of Harry and Ruth Allen Bibby. She married Charles Wayne Modrall on June 22, 1957, in Carlsbad, N.M., and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Modrall is survived by two brothers, Scotty Bibby of Dallas and David Bibby of Midland.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Richard A. Neffendorf Jr.


RICHARD A. NEFFENDORF JR.

Richard A. Neffendorf Jr., 83, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Burdick officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday evening, Oct. 6, at the funeral chapel.

Neffendorf was born July 23, 1930, in Fredericksburg, the son of Richard Neffendorf Sr. and Frieda Friedrich Neffendorf. He married Ruth Gerloff on Dec. 23, 1953, in Fredericksburg and she survives.

After 32 years in numerous positions in banking, the latest as vice president, he began a trucking business, delivering alfalfa hay.

Over the years, he was involved in leadership with the Boy Scouts, the 4-H Club, and he also served as trustee for the Doss and Fredericksburg schools. He was also involved with the Billie Boosters and the Band Boosters.

Neffendorf was a member of Victory Fellowship Church.

Leo Norman III

Leo Norman III, 48, of Kemah, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m., at Shrine of the True Cross in Dickinson, with interment following at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Norman, of Kemah; his father, Leo (Junior) Norman Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Fredericksburg; a son, Caleb Norman, of Fredericksburg; two step-daughters, Tanya Lemus and Jennifer Yancey; two step-brothers, Brad Curtis and Chad Curtis, and six grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his mother, Madonna Norman, and brother, Dannan Norman.

Petra Hernandez Serrato

Petra Hernandez Serrato, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation will begin Friday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m.

A vigil service will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., at the funeral chapel.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Loyd C. Smith, 83, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehab.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m., at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Werner Walter Klein, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 4, from 4-7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 5, from 7:30-9:45 a.m., in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

A vigil service will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., at the funeral chapel.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Graveside services with military honors and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Mary’s Parish Capital Campaign or to the charity of choice.

Larry Maurice Kolmeier, 55, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013.

John S. Adamson III


JOHN S. ADAMSON III

John S. Adamson III, 72, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

Funeral services, followed by interment, were held Friday, Sept. 13, in Sealy, under the direction of Knesek Brothers Funeral Home.

Honors at graveside were accorded by the Houston Police Department Honor Guard.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. at Stonewall Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Welch officiating.

Adamson was born Feb. 21, 1941, the son of John Adamson and Margie Duke Adamson.

Adamson was a retired captain with the Houston Police Department. He served for 44 years, rising up from the ranks of patrolman, detective and captain.

Upon his retirement from the HPD in 2006, he moved to Fredericksburg and in the last few years, was active in local churches and the community.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Michael Joslin of Houston, and a daughter, Margie Adamson of Cypress, and two grandchildren.

David R. Harkins

David R. Harkins, 74, of Comfort, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013.

A celebration of his life was held Friday, Sept. 27, in Bulverde.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Harkins was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Taylor, the son of Milford Harkins and Ruby Swenson Harkins. He married Nancy Ringer on May 27, 1961, in San Antonio and she survives.

He was a retired teacher.

In addition to his wife, Harkins is survived by three daughters, one son and spouses, including Annette and Pete Lewis, Bulverde; Dabette and Gary Leach, San Antonio; David and Deseriee Harkins Jr., Hudson, Fla., and Tiffany and Sean Stephens, Schertz.

Survivors also include seven grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, including John and Johanna Harkins, McKinney; Lynda and Jay Martyn, Dallas, and Sammy Ray Harkins, Lubbock.

Rubin A. (Dutch) Koch


RUBIN A. KOCH

Rubin A. (Dutch) Koch, 83, of Irving, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba with the Rev. Bill Slaymaker officiating.

Interment followed at the Richland Springs Cemetery.

Koch was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Harper, the son of John Koch and Ella Behrends Koch. He and his wife, Peggy, were married in October 1953 in Arizona, and she survives.

The Koch family moved to Irving in 1960.

He worked for W&B Refrigeration in Dallas where he started out as a mechanic. Upon retirement, he was the vice president and general manager.

Koch was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife, Koch is survived by three daughters, including Melanie Koch, Irving; Dorinda (Wendy) Koch, Springfield, Oregon, and Sheria Koch, Richland Springs; and a sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Harvey Oehler, San Antonio.

Mrs. Victor Lich


MRS. VICTOR LICH

Mrs. Victor Lich, 86, nee Thelma Mary Magdalen Zoeller of Comfort, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Center in Comfort.

A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort with the Rev. Mike Peinemann officiating.

Interment followed in the Comfort Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort where visitation and a rosary service were held Tuesday evening, Sept. 24.

Mrs. Lich was born July 28, 1927, in Kendall County, the daughter of Arthur Pete Zoeller and Wilhelmine Pfeiffer Zoeller. She married Victor Lich on Aug. 24, 1946, in Boerne. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Janice Lich of Comfort and four grandsons.
