Charles (Chuck) Steinweg

Charles Arthur (Chuck) Steinweg, 73, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors at Nebo or the charity of choice.

Martha Jean Stevens


MARTHA JEAN STEVENS

Martha Jean Stevens, 69, of Harper, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

Services were held Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at Wild Ride Ministries in Harper with the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating.

Ms. Stevens was born Aug. 5, 1944, the daughter of Homer Lee Stevens and Marguerite Mae Wendel Stevens. She married Richard Thomas Leach. They were married 22 years at the time of his death in 1998.

After growing up in Harper, she attended Schreiner University and eventually graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.

Ms. Stevens moved to Houston where she spent her first years teaching in the Houston Independent School District. She moved to Florida in 1969, and after her marriage, moved back to Texas and settled in Austin.

She taught elementary school a total of 34 years.

Upon moving back to Harper, Ms. Stevens volunteered at the Harper schools and the Harper Library, helping to found that organization in 2006.

Jene Switzer

Jene Switzer, 60, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

His memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Institute or the charity of choice.

Edna Catherine Brown


EDNA BROWN

Edna Catherine Brown, 101, nee McDonald, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Cleveland, Texas, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 31, at noon at Pace-Stancil Funeral Chapel in Cleveland with interment following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.

Mrs. Brown was born June 14, 1912, in Glover, Okla., the daughter of Willis Andrew McDonald and Cora Lee McDonald.

She was instrumental in helping form the Senior Center in Cleveland and was on the board of directors. She was also active in the Association of Retired Persons Chapter 1174 of Cleveland, serving as president at different times.

Mrs. Brown was also one of the founders of the Interfaith Center that was organized by local churches to help those in need with clothing and food.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and E.T. Jenschke of Harper, and a son, Andrew James Brown of Cleveland.

William Joseph Butler


WILLIAM JOSEPH BUTLER

William Joseph Butler, 79, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Graveside services and interment of the cremains with honors to be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Butler was born March 10, 1934, in Manchester, Conn., the son of Joseph O. Butler and Elizabeth Wodal Butler. He married Sybil Birchard on Oct. 24, 1953, in Glastonbury, Conn, and she survives.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Butler served from August 1953 to August 1956, and was a life member of DAV Chapter 167.

He worked as a truck driver for freight companies.

Gary Wayne Itri

Gary Wayne Itri, 63, of Fredericksburg and formerly of California, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home were visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m.-1:45 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by interment in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Joyce Lange


JOYCE LANGE

Joyce Lange, 80, nee Spaeth, of Harper, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Harper with the Rev. Scott Hofmann officiating.

Interment followed in the Harper Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Wednesday evening, Jan. 8.

Mrs. Lange was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Mason County, the daughter of Alfred Spaeth and Lillie Geistweidt Spaeth. She married Elmer Lange on June 7, 1953, at St. James Lutheran Church at Harper. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Craig Lange, of Harper; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Juan Brown of Harper; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a sister, Janice Spaeth, of Harper.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.

Francis T. Langehennig


FRANCIS LANGEHENNIG

Francis T. (F.T., Ham, Eddie) Langehennig, 76, of Spicewood, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, in Leander.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Marble Falls with the Reverends Danielle Casey and Harold Vanicek officiating.

Langehennig was born Aug. 22, 1937, in Fredericksburg, the son of Erhardt Langehennig and Mary Staudt Langehennig. He married Mary Jane Molder on Nov. 26, 1969, in Austin and she survives.

He worked as a mechanic the majority of his life.

In addition to his wife, Langehennig is survived by two daughters, including Kristie Chatham of Leander and Kitt Scharf and her husband, Greg, of Round Rock, and four grandchildren.

He is also survived by his oldest sister, Pauline Patranella of Fredericksburg.

Langehennig was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Peck and Rosie Weinheimer; and two brothers, A.J. Langehennig and Robert Langehennig.

Robert Chapman Mays


ROBERT CHAPMAN MAYS

Robert Chapman Mays, 79, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in an Austin hospital.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Percy Smerek officiating.

Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Mays was born June 25, 1934, in El Paso, the son of William Rogers (Jack) Mays and Elizabeth Chapman Mays. He married Julia Sleeth on Sept. 16, 1955, in San Antonio, and she survives.

Mays was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from June 30, 1955, until Nov. 30, 1976, and was ranked as a lieutenant colonel at the time of his discharge. He was awarded numerous medals and citations for his service.

In addition to his wife, Mays is survived by one daughter, two sons and spouses, including Ford Chapman and Alison Mays II, of Fredericksburg; Andrew Hugh Mays, California, and Mary Elizabeth Mays, Tyler.

Mrs. Ronald McCormick

Mrs. Ronald McCormick, 66, nee Caren Sue Conoly of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors from 2-3 p.m., Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
