Martin Hugo Baethge

Martin Hugo Baethge, 83, died Monday, June 1, 2015.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation will be held today, Wednesday, June 3, from 5-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 4, at Fredericksburg Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Dr. Marvin (Nick) Bennack


DR. MARVIN (NICK) BENNACK

Dr. Marvin (Nick) Bennack, 85, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, May 15, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 30, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sid Spiller officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Bennack was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Pleasanton, the son of George Bennack and Jane Stewart Bennack. He married Marjorie Meriwether on May 27, 1951, and she survives.

Bennack grew up in Raymondville. After graduating from Texas A&I University at Kingsville, he was accepted into the University of Texas Dental School, receiving his dental license in 1956.

After serving two years in the United States Air Force, the Bennacks returned to Raymondville where he practiced dentistry. After retiring from dentistry, he obtained his pilot’s license to fly single engine airplanes and flew both commercially and as an instructor.

James Ewald Eckert


JAMES EWALD ECKERT

James Ewald Eckert, 91, of Stonewall, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

Graveside services, with military honors, and interment followed in the Stonewall Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening, May 22.

Eckert was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Stonewall, the son of Benno H. Eckert and Thekla Weyrich Eckert. He married Dorothy Louise Houy on June 8, 1947, and she survives.

Attending Stonewall School through 10th grade, Eckert then went to Fredericksburg High School, graduating in 1941.

In the fall of 1941, he began welding classes at Fox Tech in San Antonio, and in December of that year, after World War II began, Eckert started working at Kelly Field in San Antonio.

Constance Marie Emberton

Constance Marie Emberton, 88, nee Everett, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, May 21, 2015.

Private services are planned by the family.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Mrs. Emberton was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Anaheim, California, the daughter of Francis Everett and Mary Kane Everett. Her husband, James Herbert Emberton, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Emberton is survived by two daughters and one son, including Elaine Endicott of Harper, Jim Emberton and his wife, Joan, of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Kathy Rose Emberton, of Trenton, Missouri.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, James Whittaker of California.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Emberton was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Whittaker, and a brother, Charles Everett.

Robert W. Harper


ROBERT W. HARPER

Robert W. Harper, 86, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The family is planning a private memorial service at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Harper was born April 6, 1929, in Lexa, Mississippi, the son of Richard Harper and Theresa Stanton Harper. His wife, the former Sally Johnston, survives.

In addition to his wife, Harper is survived by six children and spouses, including Sandra Harper of New York, New York; Chuck and Marcia Harper, East Bernard; Theresa Harper, Rockport, Maine; Mike Harper, Wharton; David Cooney, Fredericksburg, and, Chris and Milagros Cooney, Early.

Survivors also include 13 grandchildren and a brother, Leonard Harper, Oxford, Mississippi.

Harper was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Sarah Harper and Gram Lenery.

Paula Itz Hein

Paula Itz Hein, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, June 1, 2015.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 5, from 5-7 p.m., at Fredericksburg Funeral Home, and on Saturday, June 6, from 9-10 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6, at Bethany Lutheran Church, with interment following at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation or to the charity of choice.

Ruth (Metza) Ottmers


RUTH (METZA) OTTMERS

Ruth (Metza) Ottmers, 86, nee Mayer, of Stonewall, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Stonewall with the Rev. Percy Smerek officiating.  Ada Smerek was organist, and Eileen Ottmers, pianist.

Interment followed in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening, May 29.

Mrs. Ottmers was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Gillespie County, the daughter of Edgar Mayer and Edna Maenius Mayer. She married Ewald (Pete) Ottmers 68 years ago and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ottmers is survived by three sons, two daughters and spouses, including Roger Ottmers and Leland and Eileen Ottmers, all of Stonewall; and Ricky and Carol Ottmers, Daisy and Keith Schneider and Pansy and Berry Benedict, all of Fredericksburg.

Norma Ruth Owen


NORMA RUTH OWEN

Norma Ruth Owen, 92, nee Baethge, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, May 23, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Montgomery and the Rev. Brett Owen officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, May 25.

Mrs. Owen was born Oct. 24, 1922, at Doss, the daughter of William (Willie) Baethge and Ethel Faught Baethge. She married Joe Owen in 1943. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Owen attended school in Doss and Fredericksburg. Growing up, she worked at the Doss general merchandise store which was owned by her father and his brother.

Over the years, she and her husband lived in Mathis, Edna, Friona and San Antonio. After his death, she returned to Fredericksburg.

Hayden Daniel Pfiester

Hayden Daniel Pfiester, 20, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, as the result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 5, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m., Friday, at the church.

Graveside services and interment of the cremains follows at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pfiester was born Dec. 14, 1994, in Fredericksburg.

Survivors include his parents, Bryan Pfiester and Tabitha Olfers Pfiester; one brother, Kohwen Pfiester, and one sister, Daisha Pfiester, all of Fredericksburg.

He is also survived by his grandparents, Danny and Linda Pfiester and Earl and Ruby Olfers, and great-grandparents, Erline Jenschke and Roland Borchers, all of Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to the Frantzen-Ahrens Post 7105 Veterans of Foreign Wars or to the charity of choice.

Brandon Leroy Strackbein

Brandon Leroy Strackbein, 20, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, as the result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.

Memorial services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 29, in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Pam Traver officiating.

The family received friends from 9-10 a.m., Friday, in the funeral chapel.

Private interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Strackbein was born May 5, 1995, in Fredericksburg.

Survivors include his parents, David and Courtney Strackbein; four sisters and one brother: Kelsey Howard, Alexas Strackbein, Dustin Strackbein, Skye Strackbein and Molly Strackbein.

He is also survived by his grandparents, Leroy and JoAnn Esensee and Judy Bernice Czjka.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
