Grayson Jordan

Grayson Jordan, 93, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 5-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home, with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Nature Conservancy or Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.

Clarence Lloyd Nixon


CLARENCE LLOYD NIXON

Clarence Lloyd Nixon, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Janysek officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and Liz Tynan, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and rosary services, led by Deacon Patrick Klein, were held Tuesday evening, Jan. 20.

Nixon was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Fredericksburg, the son of William Jasper Nixon and Octivia Louise Ransleben Nixon. He married Mary Margaret Jung on Feb. 10, 1940. She preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 2012.

He was a World War II veteran. For many years, was employed at Dooley’s Store.

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl


MRS. ALVIN (JAKE) PEHL

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl, 101, nee Anita A. Steitle of Fredericksburg and formerly of the Luckenbach community, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Interment followed in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service, led by Deacon Patrick Klein, were held Monday evening, Jan. 19.

Mrs. Pehl was born April 7, 1913, in San Antonio, the daughter of Arnold Richard Steitle and Ottilie Gold Steitle. She married Alvin Alfons (Jake) Pehl on Aug. 9, 1933, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1989.

Mario Rios Perez

Mario Rios Perez, 71, of Cedar Creek and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehab.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, from 4-6:30 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 30, from 7-8:15 a.m.

A vigil service will begin at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, at the funeral chapel.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 8:15 a.m., Friday, Jan. 30, and from 9-10 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall where the funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Stonewall.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to the charity of choice.

Evelyn Segner


EVELYN SEGNER

Evelyn Segner, 85, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.

A funeral mass was celebrated Friday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Annette Whittington, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and vigil services, led by Deacon Patrick Klein, were held Thursday evening, Jan. 22.

Miss Segner was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Gillespie County, the daughter of Albert John Segner and Ludmilla Klein Segner.

Survivors include one sister, Rosie, Mrs. Erwin Weber, and two sisters-in-law, Irene, Mrs. Ewald Segner and Florence, Mrs. Erwin Segner, all of Fredericksburg.

Charles (Chuck) Todora


CHARLES (CHUCK) TODORA

Charles (Chuck) Todora, 55, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.

A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 23, in the chapel at Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. David Zintgraff officiating.

Music was provided by Bobby Totten and Aaron Witte.

Todora was born Oct. 16, 1959, in Easton, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles Todora and Marion Greenzweig Todora. He married Traci Greene on April 27, 1997, and she survives.

A 1977 graduate of Nazareth High School, Todora began working for the United States Postal Service in 1985, and had been with them for over 30 years.

He was active with the Praise and Worship Team at Sonday House Fellowship.

He was a member of two motorcycle clubs, including the Yahama Star Touring and Riding Club and the Cross Legacy Club, and was working on his black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Ruth Elizabeth Stockwell Born

Ruth Elizabeth Stockwell Born, 101, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehab.

Graveside services and interment of the cremains in the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, New Mexico, is planned at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Ms. Born was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Providence City, the daughter of Ora Hiram Stockwell and Rena Elizabeth Ice Stockwell.

She was a teacher and principal for an elementary school in Carlsbad, New Mexico prior to retirement.

Survivors include one son, Mark Alan Born of California; one daughter, Margo Mason of Washington; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a sister, Doris Magruder of Fredericksburg.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Born was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Maynard and Carolyn Pond.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Marshal Wayne Burton

Marshal Wayne Burton, 76, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services and interment were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Burton was born Sept. 11, 1938, in Greenville, the son of Jessie Burton and Georgie Smith Burton.

He is survived by one daughter, three sons and spouses, including Michael and Kimberly Burton, of Mt. Vernon; Steven and Samatha Burton, Singapore, and Wayne and Carol Burton and Vicki and Kenny Turner, all of Greenville.

Survivors also include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Burton was preceded in death by three brothers, including Buck Burton, George Burton and Edwin Burton.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Kynleigh Marie Groce

Kynleigh Marie Groce, daughter of Kaylyn Burrow and Trey Groce, was stillborn Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home. Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, the infant is survived by her grandparents: Randy and Brayla Leighton, of Caldwell; D.L. and Leslie Groce, Snook, and Kyle and Sheree Burrow, Fredericksburg.

Also surviving are great-grandparents, John and Beatrice Landolt, Lyons; Don and Sylvia Groce, Caldwell; Larry and Joyce Burrow and Charles and Kay Eckhardt, all of Fredericksburg.

Surviving great-great-grandparents include Madeline Groce, Caldwell; Juanita Landolt, Somerville; Zonia Bauman, Llano, and Ruben Wahrmund, Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to the Gillespie County 4-H, Burleson County 4-H, Caldwell FFA, Fredericksburg FFA or to the charity of choice.

Eugene E. Hannemann


EUGENE E. HANNEMANN

Eugene E. Hannemann, 90, of Thousand Oaks, California, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, California, with the Rev. Steve Herder officiating.

Interment followed at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.

Hannemann was born Nov. 22, 1923, in the Cave Creek community of Gillespie County, the son of Fred Hannemann and Caecilia Sagebiel Hannemann. He married Margaret Burnette on July 22, 1950, in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2014.

A 1943 Fredericksburg High School graduate, Hannemann enlisted in the United States Navy and was deployed to the South Pacific.

After the war, he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin where he received a bachelor of arts degree in history.
