Carolyn E. Rose

Carolyn E. Rose, 60, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to New Horizons, Bethany Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Esther Estella Rusche

ESTHER ESTELLA RUSCHE

Esther Estella Rusche, 84, nee Schneider, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Christ Lutheran Church, Cherry Spring, with the Rev. Mark A. Ward officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Dec. 3.

Mrs. Rusche was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Llano County, the daughter of Chester Edmund Schneider and Edna Louise Umfrid Schneider. She married Gustav Adolph Rusche on June 16, 1956, at Christ Lutheran Church at Cherry Spring. He preceded her in death Aug. 6, 2002.

The Rusches resided in the Cherry Mountain community where she was active in the Cherry Mountain Community Club. She also quilted with the Christ Lutheran Church WELCA quilting group.

Lawrence Gene Schmid

LAWRENCE GENE SCHMID

Lawrence Gene Schmid, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jeff Hammond officiating. Hazel Hanson was the organist.

Entombment of the cremains followed in the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Columbarium.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Schmid was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Dallas, the son of Lawrence and Vivian Schmid. He married Doris Marie Finch on June 2, 1956, in Dallas. She preceded him in death.

Schmid graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. 

He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, serving as an usher for many years.

Schmid is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Patricia Schmid of Friendswood and Dr. John and Bobbi Schmid of Austin.

Hugo Alvin (Porky) Stehling Jr.

Hugo Alvin (Porky) Stehling Jr., 78, of El Paso, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso.

A memorial mass will be held in Fredericksburg on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by a rosary service at 10:30 a.m., and a memorial Mass at 11 a.m.

Private graveside services and interment will be held that afternoon at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to CASA of El Paso or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Martin Funeral Home West of El Paso.

Frances Garey Stein

FRANCES GAREY STEIN

Frances Garey Stein, 91, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Uvalde, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.

Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Uvalde Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Fahrenthold officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rushing Estes Knowles Funeral Home, Uvalde.

Mrs. Stein was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Denton, Montana, the daughter of Sanford H. Garey and Ruth Ann More Garey. She married Edward J. Stein who preceded her in death.

Over the years, she worked at the El Progresso Library and then the draft board (until it was dissolved) and finally, the Soil Conservation Service from which she retired at age 65.

Mrs. Stein was past Worthy Matron and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and past president of Uvalde AARP.

Mrs. Willard (Nancy) Dearing, 76, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.

Mrs. Federico Galindo, 63, nee Anselma Cervantez of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Schaetter Funeral Home with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Albert E. Meier, 93, nee Dora Nielsen of Stonewall, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Graveside services and interment will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, in the Wilke Cemetery at Albert.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hill Country Antique Tractor and Engine Club or to the charity of choice.

Andrew A. Rode

ANDREW A. RODE

Andrew A. Rode, 86, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Christ Lutheran Church at Cherry Spring with the Rev. Mark A. Ward officiating.

Interment followed in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, Nov. 30.

Rode, a resident of the Cherry Spring community, was born June 17, 1929, in Gillespie County, the son of Regu A. Rode and Ida Dittmar Rode. He married Theresa D. Lange on April 11, 1953, and she survives.

He went to the Cherry Spring School through the 11th grade and then attended Fredericksburg High School for his senior year. 

Rode was a farmer and rancher and worked at the Llano Livestock Auction for over 20 years.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
