Diane Peyton Cobis


DIANE PEYTON COBIS

Diane Peyton Cobis, 47, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.

A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Paige Findley officiating.

Ms. Cobis was born July 24, 1966, in Hutchinson, Kan., the daughter of Larry and Cornelia Wilson. Being part of a military family, she lived in many parts of the United States and foreign countries.

She graduated from high school in Bellevue, Neb., received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of Wyoming and a master of science degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Gai Ann Harper

Gai Ann Harper, 64, nee Smith, of Mason, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m., at Mason Funeral Home, in Mason, with Rusty Felts officiating.

Interment followed in the Harper Family Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harper was born Aug. 31, 1949, in San Angelo, the daughter of Holland Smith and Hazel Smallwood Smith. She married Sam (Buzzy) Harper in October 1988 in Coleman, and he survives.

A graduate of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Mrs. Harper worked as a beautician for many years in a number of places, including Fredericksburg.

She was also a champion barrel racer.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Harper is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Toy and Cole Hardin of San Angelo, and two grandchildren.

Modena Marschall


MODENA MARSCHALL

Modena Marschall, 95, nee Gentry, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

Graveside services and interment were held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Marschall-Meusebach Cemetery in the Cherry Spring community, with Glen Treibs officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marschall was born March 17, 1918, in Chillicothe, the daughter of Arthur Gentry and Patsy Baker Gentry. After graduating from Chillicothe High School, she moved to Corpus Christi.

She married H.W. (Bill) Marschall on Dec. 31, 1937, in Corpus Christi. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dinah and Dr. Steven Fisher of Santa Barbara, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Marschall was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Marschall, and three brothers, including Ross Gentry, Jack Gentry and Charles Gentry.

Carl H. Meurer

Carl H. Meurer, 89, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of choice.

Petra Hernandez Serrato


PETRA SERRATO

Petra Hernandez Serrato, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Friday, Oct. 11.

Mrs. Serrato was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Del Rio, the daughter of Mateo Hernandez and Manuella Cardona Hernandez. She married Ramon Serrato on Jan. 30, 1976, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by 10 children, including Guadalupe Torres and Jesse Bonilla, both of Fredericksburg; Linda Hernandez and Jorge Hernandez, both of Mexico; Maria Serrato, Lockhart; Jimmy Serrato, Elizabeth Serrato and Susana Garcia, all of San Antonio; Ray Martinez of New Mexico, and Fred Cardana of Illinois.

Douglas Leon Arnold

Douglas Leon Arnold, 95, of Kerrville, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., at the Rocky Community Church at Hye.

Arrangements were under the direction of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home of Johnson City.

Douglas was born Oct. 17, 1917, at Spicewood, the son of William and Allie Arnold. He married Lillian Brodbeck on June 24, 1942. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before she preceded him in death.

The Arnolds lived in the Rocky Creek community where he worked in excavation and construction.  He founded the Rocky Community Church in 1953.  They retired to Kerrville in 1984.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John (Buzz) Thurman of Kerrville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Ozell Glass of Leakey and Doris Nell Voges of New Braunfels, and one brother, Billy Arnold of Eastland.

Donna Caraway


DONNA CARAWAY

Donna Caraway, 69, nee Lansford, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m., in the Family Chapel at Greenwood Cemetery with Chaplain Alan Matthies officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Mrs. Caraway was born Sept. 5, 1944, in Carrizo Springs, the daughter of Don Baily Lansford and Archie Della Bassinger Lansford. She married Ken Caraway on Nov. 8, 1991, in Brady, and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Caraway is survived by three children and their spouses, including Penny and Greg Gail of Fond du Lac, Wisc.; Donna Mae and Ron Horton of St. Louis, Mo. and Bobby Turman of Marble Falls; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one half-sister, Jackie Morris of Port Isabel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of choice.

Norma (Nina) Moldenhauer Grelle


NORMA MOLDENHAUER GRELLE

Norma (Nina) Moldenhauer Grelle, 90, of Midland, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Senior Care Nursing Home in Midland.

Graveside services and interment were held Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Midland with Jimmy Daniel officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.

Mrs. Grelle was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Gillespie County, the daughter of Adolph Moldenhauer and Amelia Herbort Moldenhauer. She married Eugene Henry Grelle on Nov. 7, 1942 in Austin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1992.

Over the years, she had been a preschool teacher.

Mrs. Grelle is survived by two sons, three daughters and spouses, including: Donald Eugene and Janice Grelle, of Mart; Kenneth Gregg and Dianne Grelle, of San Antonio; Karyl Ann and Larry Johnson, of San Angelo; Peggy and Don Kinnison, and Linda and Terry Fieseler, all of Midland.

Werner Walter Klein


WERNER WALTER KLEIN

Werner Walter Klein, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Oct, 5, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and Frosty and Susan Rees, the vocalists.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home, where visitation and a vigil service were led Friday evening, Oct. 4, by Deacon Curtis Klein.

Visitation with the family was held Friday evening, Oct. 4, and Saturday morning, Oct. 5, at Schaetter Funeral Home.

Klein was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Stonewall, the son of William Henry Klein and Christina Jenschke Klein. He married Esther Koennecke on June 19, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and she survives.
