Steven Wayne Kennedy

Steven Wayne Kennedy, 62, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Oakwood RV Park Recreation Center.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Kennedy was born July 21, 1953, in Austin, the son of Robert Wilson Kennedy and Myrtle Stockton Kennedy. He married Jana Phillips on Aug. 24, 1997, in Burnet, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Kennedy is survived by three daughters, one son and spouses, including Melanie Kennedy, Angel and Roland Brown, Amber and Ryan Lindley, and Steven Kennedy Jr.

Survivors also include 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Louise Wells and Carolyn Hammock and her husband, James.

Kennedy was preceded in death by his parents and two children, O’quita Charpio and JoJo Charpio, and two sisters, Nora Ann Schuhrke and Roberta Kennedy.

Shirley Dean Mangum


SHIRLEY DEAN MANGUM

Shirley Dean Mangum, 80, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pam Traver officiating.

Afterwards, the body was cremated.

Mrs. Mangum was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Cayuga, the daughter of Roy Rye Davis and Ethel Dean Davis. On July 28, 1953, she married Raymond Jerome Mangum in Falfurrias. He preceded her in death.

For 18 years, Mrs. Mangum worked as a medical secretary. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteered at MHMC for 13 years.

The Mangums moved to Fredericksburg in December 1999. They attended Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mangum is survived by one son, Michael Mangum of Eagle Lake; a daughter-in-law, Susan Mangum of Longview, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Harvey A. Oehler


HARVEY A. OEHLER

Harvey A. Oehler, 90, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, San Antonio, with interment following in Mission Burial Park South.

Oehler was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Fredericksburg.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany and France as a member of the 80th Airborne Battalion.

Oehler is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera; one daughter, one son and spouses, Roger and Emily Oehler and Cyndea and Jim Hunter; one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Joan L. Watson


JOAN L. WATSON

Joan L. Watson, 71, nee Lafitte, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Burdick officiating.

Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Watson was born Nov. 12, 1944, in Joaquin, the daughter of Jessie A. Lafitte and Bonnie B. Richardson Lafitte. She married Fred Watson in November 1965. He preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Harold W. Pape, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, in the Harper Community Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

 

ALLEN DRAKE HOUSTON

Allen Drake Houston, 49, of Uvalde, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehab.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, and from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Schaetter Funeral Home, with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Gilberto Barrera


GILBERTO BARRERA

Gilberto Barrera, 86, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Mexico, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, in a San Antonio hospital.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Deacon Francisco De La Torre officiating.

Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date in Mexico.

Visitation with the family was held prior to the memorial service.

Barrera was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Mexico, the son of Rafael Barrera and Paula Gomez Barrera. He married Maria Mendoza who preceded him in death.

He is survived by five sons, two daughters and spouses,  including Hilda Bopp and Pedro Landa, Socorro and Gabriel Galindo, Eleno and Carollyn Barrera and Salome Barrera, all of Fredericksburg; Sergio and Julieta Barrera and German and Emma Barrera, all of Mexico, and Rafael and Esmeralda Barrera, of Denver City, Texas.

Survivors also include 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Willard (Nancy) Dearing

Mrs. Willard (Nancy) Dearing, 76, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 104 Pyka Road.

Memorials may be made to Fredericksburg Baptist Church, American Breast Cancer Foundation, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Federico Galindo


MRS. FEDERICO GALINDO

Mrs. Federico Galindo, 63, nee Anselma Cervantez of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Kris Bytomski officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Galindo was born May 6, 1952, in Mexico, the daughter of Librado Cervantez and Maria Herrera Cervantez. She married Federico Galindo who survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Galindo is survived by five daughters and two sons, including Linda Galindo, Yolanda Reza, Jeronimo Galindo and Federico Galindo Jr., all of Fredericksburg; Irene Sans, Harper; Norma Martinez, Coldwater, Mississippi, and Maribel Ramirez, Hutto.

Survivors also include 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. John Hanson Sr.

Mrs. John Hanson Sr., 83, nee Wanda Sue Gardner of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Fredericksburg Bible Church.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the SPCA or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
