William A. Wareing Jr., 95, of Houston and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015.

Arrangements are pending with Schaetter Funeral Home.

Rev. George Watts


REV. GEORGE WATTS

Rev. George Watts, 66, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at First Baptist Church with the Reverends Ken Moore and Wes Dean officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Watts was born Nov. 1, 1948, in McKinney, the son of Clarence Watts and Naomi Ready Watts, and was raised in Beaumont. He married Sheila Kelley on Nov. 23, 1985, and she survives.

Watts was the current pastor at Faith Baptist Church at State Highway 16 North.

In addition to his wife, Watts is survived by one son, Daniel Watts of San Marcos, and a brother and sister-in-law, Oliver and Linda Watts of Houston.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Mission Fund.

Edgar Wendel


EDGAR WENDEL

Edgar Wendel, 98, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Doss, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Calvary Pentecostal Church with Clyde Dechert officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Wendel was born May 24, 1917, in Mason County, the son of William Henry Wendel and Anna Sattler Wendel. He married Mildred Gerloff on Oct. 17, 1938, in Fredericksburg. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1984.

Wendel is survived by four children and spouses, including Gerald and Thelma Wendel, Sharon and Don Steadman and Jim Wendel, all of Fredericksburg, and Tim and Clair Wendel of Shelburn, Indiana.

Survivors also include eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Alex J. Baumann


MRS. ALEX J. BAUMANN

Mrs. Alex J. Baumann, 89, nee Irene Miller of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the organist, and Donna Durst, the vocalist.

Entombment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Mrs. Baumann was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Llano County, the daughter of William Miller and Dora Schneider Miller. She married Alex J. Baumann on Feb. 6, 1943. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1995.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Hoyler of San Antonio, and a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Robin Baumann of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Jerome John Gold


JEROME JOHN GOLD

Jerome John Gold, 84, of Uvalde, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde with Chaplain Bill Ruff officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde where visitation was held Sunday evening, Aug. 23.

Gold was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Fredericksburg, the son of Guenther Theodore Gold and Alma Knopp Gold. His wife, Jennielea, preceded him in death.

Gold served in the U.S. Navy.

He worked for Coca-Cola for 30 years, in bookkeeping and managing the plant. He was a member of the Lions Club and American Legion for many years.

Gold is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Randy Sloan of Uvalde and Patty and Mike Jett of Knippa.

Survivors also include six grandchildren, and one brother, George Gold of Bulverde.

Marion Katherine Kuhlmann Hammett


MARION KUHLMANN HAMMETT

Marion Katherine Kuhlmann Hammett, 84, of Lampasas, died Wednesday Aug. 19, 2015.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas, with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sneed Funeral Chapel of Lampasas where visitation was held Friday evening, Aug. 21.

Mrs. Hammett was born July 29, 1931, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Elgin and Erna Kuhlmann. She married William Lee (Bill) Hammett on June 22, 1957, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death.

A 1950 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Mrs. Hammett received her teaching degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.

She taught for 44 years, 28 of those in the Lampasas Independent School District.

Mrs. Conrad Matysiak Sr.


MRS. CONRAD MATYSIAK SR.

Mrs. Conrad Matysiak Sr., 93, nee Kathlyn Grodhaus of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sid Spiller officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Matysiak was born July 12, 1922, in Baytown, the daughter of Adolf Grodhaus and Lorene Fordyce Grodhaus. She married Conrad Matysiak Sr. on March 28, 1941, in Baytown. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2004.

She is survived by one daughter, Janelle Duree of Baytown, and a son, Conrad Matysiak Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Stonewall.

Survivors also include eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Edgar Wendel

Edgar Wendel, 98, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015.

Funeral services are being held at 3 p.m., today, Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors at Nebo, Gideons International or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Wheeler B. Annen


WHEELER B. ANNEN

Wheeler B. Annen, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015.

A private service and distribution of the cremains is planned at a later date.

After marrying Henry J. Annen, the couple settled in Corpus Christi in 1948 where they established H.J. Annen Construction Co. for which she was the bookkeeper and secretary.

As an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, she spent many hours of service in various groups, and was a volunteer at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

In 2005, Mrs. Annen moved to Fredericksburg where she became a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and volunteered at the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Annen is survived by her daughter, Annette Annen of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister; her husband, and her son, Tim J. Annen.

Memorials may be made to any hospice organization or to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

John F. Baker


JOHN F. BAKER

John F. Baker, 64, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Baker was born Feb. 2, 1951, in Tyler, the son of Haywood Baker and Margie Burks Baker. He married Peggy McKenzie on May 20, 1972, and she survives.

For 33 years, he worked as a research technician at Dow Chemical in Freeport.

He retired and moved to Fredericksburg in 2006.

In addition to his wife, Baker is survived by three sons, two daughters and spouses, including Brady and Lahree Baker, Amber and Joseph Covert and Brittany and Tim Quinn, all of Fredericksburg; Andy and Leticia Baker, of Belize, and Jade and Crysta Baker of Tuxedo Park, New York.

Survivors also include six grandchildren; his mother, Margie Baker Cobb, and sister, Linda Wehrly, both of Marysville, California.
