Gregory W. (Greg) Dittmar


GREG DITTMAR

Gregory W. (Greg) Dittmar, 53, of Dallas, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014.

A memorial mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home of Dallas.

Dittmar was born March 28, 1961, in Gillespie County, the son of Wilfred Dittmar and Harriet Moellering Dittmar. He married Genevieve Rubensteen on April 28, 1990, and she survives.

After graduating from Fredericksburg High School in 1979, Dittmar attended Texas State University, graduating in 1983 with a bachelor of fine arts degree.

He opened Dittmar Design in 1995, providing graphic design for clients for nearly 20 years.

Over the years, he served on the boards of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and Ursuline Academy.

J. Scott Gardner

J. Scott Gardner, 45, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. at Oak Hills Church of Fredericksburg with the Rev. Jimmy Sportsman officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, Oct. 20.

Gardner was born Dec. 27, 1968, in Bellflower, California, the son of John Gardner and Lena Crockett Gardner. He married Jessica Gamel on Sept. 6, 2002, in Santa Ana, California, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Gardner is survived by two sons, Quincy Cooper Gardner and Pacen Ascher Gardner, both of Fredericksburg; his mother: Lena VanAuker of Downey, California; and a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Mondo Ruiz of Downey, California.

He is also survived by four step-siblings: Bobbi Jo Passmore, Corrine Roscoe, Roger VanAuker and Marie Johnston.

Paul Joseph Hartmann


PAUL JOSEPH 'PAULIE' HARTMANN

Paul Joseph (Paulie) Hartmann, 85, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and David Mayfield and the church choir sang.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and vigil-rosary services were held Friday evening, Oct. 24.

Hartmann was born April 20, 1929, in Gillespie County, the son of Emil Henry Hartmann Sr. and Erna M. Oehler Hartmann. He married Frances Hohmann on Oct. 25, 1949, and she survives.

He attended St. Mary’s School and was a truck driver for Weirich Brothers. In later years, he was a home delivery carrier for the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post.

William Cameron Hawkes

William Cameron Hawkes, 84, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014.

Services will be held Monday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida.

Memorials may be made to All Children’s Hospital Foundation, 500 7th Ave South, 6th Floor, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.

Eddie J. Heimann

Eddie J. Heimann, 81, of Garland, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014.

Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Rockwall with the Rev. Gordon Illausky officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rest Haven Funeral Home of Rockwall.

Heimann was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Fredericksburg, the son of Edgar John Heimann and Veda Elizabeth Woodward Heimann. His wife, Jane, preceded him in death.

He was a United States Army veteran and was a truck driver.

Heimann is survived by two daughters, Mary Skoritowski and her husband, Edward, and Debra Heimann; and two sons, Jimmy Heimann and David Heimann and his wife, Lisa.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Wayne Heimann, and a sister, RoseEllen Johnson.

In addition to his wife and parents, Heimann was preceded in death by a son, Eddie J. Heimann II.

Gerlene Hill


GERLENE 'GRANDMA' HILL

Gerlene (Grandma) Hill, 73, nee Eckhardt, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Tuesday evening, Oct. 21.

Mrs. Hill was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Alfred Eckhardt and Elisa Priess Eckhardt. She married Raymond Hill who preceded her in death.

Over the years, she was a private care nurse.

She is survived by three sons and one daughter, including Kirby Davis and his wife, Linda; Glen Davis and his wife, Patricia, and Gordon Davis, all of Fredericksburg, and Barbara Mize-Maples and her husband, John, of Kerrville.

Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Walter Hohmann

Walter Hohmann, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Knopp Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to the charity of choice.

Jackson (Jackie) Kuhlmann

Jackson (Jackie) Kuhlmann, 66, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors or to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Calvin Otte


MRS. CALVIN OTTE

Mrs. Calvin Otte, 64, nee Brenda Joyce Jordan of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, in San Antonio.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating. Annabel Wilkinson was the pianist.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Otte was born May 2, 1950, in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Fred Jordan and Eva Irvin Jordan. She married Calvin Otte on May 28, 2005, in Fredericksburg and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Otte is survived by one son, Wade Prewitt of Madison Park, Oklahoma; and two step-sons and their spouses, James and Kim Otte of Plano and William and Lindsey Otte of Nashville, Tennessee.

Survivors also include two step-grandchildren, and a sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Corkey Stovall of Lone Star.

Herbert Louis Pyka


HERBERT LOUIS PYKA

Herbert Louis Pyka, 81, of Fair Oaks Ranch, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne.

Visitation and a rosary service were held beforehand at the church.

Interment took place Friday, Oct. 24, at 9:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home of Boerne.

Pyka was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Fredericksburg, the son of Louis and Lillian Pyka. He married Pat Laquey who preceded him in death.

A St. Mary’s High School graduate, Pyka attended college at Texas A&M University and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos with a master’s degree in industrial arts.

After enlisting and serving in the Army National Guard, Pyka transferred to the U.S. Army and was called to active duty, completing tours in South Korea and Vietnam.
