Ruby Alma Schneider Turner

Ruby Alma Schneider Turner, 90, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Fredericksburg Billie Boosters, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alton D. Bell

Mrs. Alton D. Bell, 97, the former Clara Lina Schmidt Herbort, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

Interment followed in the Meusebach Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening and Friday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Bell was born May 30, 1917, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Ernst Schmidt and Meta Herbort Schmidt. She married Alvin E. Herbort on July 25, 1934. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1960. 

She then married Alton D. Bell on Dec. 16, 1977. He died Oct. 8, 1994.

Over the years, Mrs. Bell worked as a chef and baker at Pioneer Village Restaurant, Andy’s Diner and Deluxe Restaurant. She also worked at Market Produce and was member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Alois W. Kunz

Mrs. Alois W. Kunz, 86, nee Madeline Margaret Segner, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, in Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A mass of resurrection was held today, Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Graveside services and interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or the charity of choice.

Schaetter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jerry Mikeska

Mrs. Jerry Mikeska, 94, nee Ethel Ruth Weigelt, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.

Visitation will begin on Friday, Aug. 8, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 7-11:15 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home until 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, and from noon to 1 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Otis Ward Herman III

Otis Ward Herman III, 68, of Fowlerton, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 26, at noon at the Tilden Civic Center in Tilden.

Herman was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Pearsall, the son of Otis Ward Herman Jr. and Nellie Jean Franklin Herman.

He is survived by one daughter, one son and spouses, Deborah and Lamar Lindley of Harper and Bryan and Michelle Herman of California; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

 Herman is also survived by two brothers, three sisters and spouses, including Wade and Judy Herman, of Nursery; Brett and Mary Herman, Needville; Sandra and Harvey Richter, Pearsall; Sallie and Bob Aldridge, Fowlerton, and Amy Herman, Aledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home of Pleasanton.

Victor Alfred Ottmers, 93, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Alfred J. (Al) Baethge


ALFRED J. 'AL' BAETHGE

Alfred J. (Al) Baethge, 61, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

Private family graveside services and interment were held Saturday, July 19, at 10 a.m. at the Squaw Creek Cemetery at Doss with the Rev. Fred Bates officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening, July 18.

Baethge was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Fredericksburg, the son of Jack Baethge and Mary Paula Blackshear Baethge. He married Eunice Arlitt on April 16, 1977, and she survives.

An independent insurance agent and farmer, Baethge was involved with civic activities in the community, including the  Optimist Club of Fredericksburg, Pedernales Youth Soccer Association, Gillespie County Fruit Growers, Fredericksburg Academic Boosters and Gillespie County 4-H shooting projects.

He also coordinated the first local Mini Cooper rally and the Optimists’ first motorcycle rally.

Donny Dale Coon

Donny Dale Coon, 73, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Antonio.

Coon was born March 23, 1941, in Abilene.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Willa Dean Coon; two daughters, Donna Brant of Gasconade, Missouri, and Danene Knox of Weatherford, and one son, Dale Ray Coon of Snowmass, Colorado.

Survivors also include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
