Roland L. (Rollie) Dain


ROLAND L. (ROLLIE) DAIN

Roland L. (Rollie) Dain, 92, of Rochester, Minnesota and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with the Rev. Anjanette Bandel officiating.

Interment followed at Decorah Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes of Rochester, Minnesota.

Dain was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Calvin Dain and Stella Ulen Dain. He married Marilyn Trytten on Aug. 25, 1948, in Ridgeway, Iowa, and she survives.

Over the years, Dain was an educator, a guidance counselor and television sports broadcaster and anchor.

He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the 102nd Infantry Division in Germany from 1944-1945.

Kathleen Weinheimer Dickey

Kathleen Weinheimer Dickey, 83 of Elkridge, Maryland, and formerly of Pampa and Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014.

Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home of Pampa where vigil services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 1.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Pampa with interment following in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa.

Memorials may be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care, 11311 McCormick Rd., Suite 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031, or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gerry Caylor, 2130 Charles, Pampa, TX  79065.

Ramon Herrera


RAMON HERRERA

Ramon Herrera, 89, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation and a rosary service, led by the Rev. Scott Janysek, were held Monday evening, Aug. 18.

Herrera was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Mitchell County, the son of Urvano Herrera and Angela Guzman Herrera. He married Irene Balero on Oct. 14, 1949, in Colorado City, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Herrera is survived by four sons, two daughters and spouses, including Donato and Zenaida Herrera of Snyder; Raymond and Josefina Herrera of San Antonio; and Joe and Juanita Herrera, Martha and Alvino Herrera, Louisa Herrera, and David and Tricia Herrera, all of Fredericksburg.

Survivors also include 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sixto Ocampo

Sixto Ocampo, 62, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014.

Graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Helen J. Schaeferkoeter


HELEN J. SCHAEFERKOETER

Helen J. Schaeferkoeter, 89, nee Polley, of Spring Branch, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home Chapel in Blanco with the Rev. Ken Green officiating.

Interment followed in the Blanco Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 24, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schaeferkoeter was born July 21, 1925, the daughter of William Stadler Polley and Una Mae Hill Polley. She married Arnold Schaeferkoeter 68 years ago and he survives.

She was a graduate of Harlandale High School in San Antonio and worked for an insurance business for many years and in later years was an owner operator of A & H Store for 15 years.

Chris Falon Underwood, 50, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m., at Sonday House Fellowship Church in Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to Sonday House Fellowship Church or to the charity of choice.

Royce Newton (Roy) Wrinkle


ROYCE (ROY) WRINKLE

Royce Newton (Roy) Wrinkle, 82, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014.

Graveside services and interment were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Priddy with Ron Briley officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening, Aug. 22.

Wrinkle was born March 31, 1932, in Coke County, west of Bronte, the son of Dennis Tipton Wrinkle and Minnie Ola Wrinkle. He and his wife, Johanna, were married on March 25, 1951. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Over the years, Wrinkle was a farmer and rancher, a ranch hand, mechanic, blacksmith, welder, machinist and entrepreneur.

In the winter of 1958-59, he founded Wrinkle Welding and Machine Shop which he operated for more than 30 years.

In 1998, the Wrinkles retired and moved to Victoria where they were members of Northside Baptist Church.

Juan Antonio (Johnny) Castillo Sr.

Juan Antonio (Johnny) Castillo Sr., 43, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Castillo was born Dec. 25, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Antonio Castillo and Rosa Sanchez Castillo. He married Cyna Anderson who survives.

In addition to his wife, Castillo is survived by six children, including Casey Gonzales and her husband, Beau, of Ballinger; Juan Castillo Jr., Ivan Castillo, Celine R. and Dominic O., all of Fredericksburg, and Angelina Castillo of Buda; one grandchild, and his mother, Rosa Castillo, of Fredericksburg.

He is also survived by four siblings, including Rosa Valdez and her husband, David, Saul Castillo, Jaime Castillo and Andrea Castillo, all of Fredericksburg.

His father preceded him in death.

Larry Dyer


LARRY DYER

Larry Dyer, 88, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with Joe Kammlah officiating. Visitation was held beforehand.

Private burial of his ashes will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Dyer was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Abington, Pennsylvania, the son of Lawrence and Mira Dyer.

His first wife, Maria, preceded him in death. He married Maurine Jones on March 30, 1984, in Anahuac, and she survives.

Dyer was a retired captain with the United States Merchant Marine.

In addition to his wife, Dyer is survived by the following children: Christina Edwards and her husband, Ken, of Austin; Michael Dyer and his wife, Valerie Cadden, Houston; Becky Redman, Abilene; Tommy Wadley and his wife, Debra, Abilene; Jimmy Wadley and his wife, Poette, Abilene; Mike Wadley and his wife, Kathy, Baytown, and Byron Wadley and his wife, Jane, Longview.

Ramon Herrera

Ramon Herrera, 89, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Ave Maria Hospice, St. Mary’s Women’s ACTS or to the charity of choice. 

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.
