Marshal Wayne Burton

Marshal Wayne Burton, 76, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services and interment were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Burton was born Sept. 11, 1938, in Greenville, the son of Jessie Burton and Georgie Smith Burton.

He is survived by one daughter, three sons and spouses, including Michael and Kimberly Burton, of Mt. Vernon; Steven and Samatha Burton, Singapore, and Wayne and Carol Burton and Vicki and Kenny Turner, all of Greenville.

Survivors also include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Burton was preceded in death by three brothers, including Buck Burton, George Burton and Edwin Burton.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Kynleigh Marie Groce

Kynleigh Marie Groce, daughter of Kaylyn Burrow and Trey Groce, was stillborn Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home. Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, the infant is survived by her grandparents: Randy and Brayla Leighton, of Caldwell; D.L. and Leslie Groce, Snook, and Kyle and Sheree Burrow, Fredericksburg.

Also surviving are great-grandparents, John and Beatrice Landolt, Lyons; Don and Sylvia Groce, Caldwell; Larry and Joyce Burrow and Charles and Kay Eckhardt, all of Fredericksburg.

Surviving great-great-grandparents include Madeline Groce, Caldwell; Juanita Landolt, Somerville; Zonia Bauman, Llano, and Ruben Wahrmund, Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to the Gillespie County 4-H, Burleson County 4-H, Caldwell FFA, Fredericksburg FFA or to the charity of choice.

Eugene E. Hannemann


EUGENE E. HANNEMANN

Eugene E. Hannemann, 90, of Thousand Oaks, California, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, California, with the Rev. Steve Herder officiating.

Interment followed at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.

Hannemann was born Nov. 22, 1923, in the Cave Creek community of Gillespie County, the son of Fred Hannemann and Caecilia Sagebiel Hannemann. He married Margaret Burnette on July 22, 1950, in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2014.

A 1943 Fredericksburg High School graduate, Hannemann enlisted in the United States Navy and was deployed to the South Pacific.

After the war, he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin where he received a bachelor of arts degree in history.

Mrs. Udo A. Henke

Mrs. Udo A. Henke, 101, nee Ruth Fay Keidel of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Interment followed at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Visitation was held Friday evening and Saturday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Henke was born May 15, 1913, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Felix Keidel and Hattie Elsa Pfeiffer Keidel. She married Udo A. Henke on June 25, 1936, in San Antonio. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1989.

She is survived by two granddaughters and spouses, including Belinda and Ken Grams of Spring Branch and Shelly Lynn and Ralph Van Orsdale of Kerrville; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Irma Lentz

Irma Lentz, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, in Cuero.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or to the Golden Hub Community Center.

Clarence Lloyd Nixon, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Halle Building Fund or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl, 101, nee Anita A. Steitle of Fredericksburg and formerly of Luckenbach, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with entombment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Joseph’s Halle Restoration or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jim Traggis


MRS. JIM TRAGGIS

Mrs. Jim Traggis, 92, nee Alice Pawlakos of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with Mary Katherine Bakiris and Johnny Nicholas officiating.

Mrs. Traggis was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of John Pawlakos and Estella Poulakos Pawlakos. She married Jim Traggis on Nov. 25, 1957, in Westerly, Rhode Island. He preceded her in death.

In the 1940’s, Mrs. Traggis worked for Squibb Pharmaceuticals where she worked her way up to the position of executive secretary.

After their marriage, the Traggises lived in Glen Cove, New York, until relocating to Hartford, Wisconsin, where he was a pilot for the Milwaukee Braves.

When the Braves moved to Atlanta, he declined an offer to relocate and the couple formed Traggis Aviation shortly thereafter.

EVELYN SEGNER

Evelyn Segner, 85, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5-7 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 23, from 7:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m.

A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, at the funeral chapel.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Golden Hub Community Center, St. Joseph’s Hall Restoration or to the charity of choice.

 

MRS. ALVIN (JAKE) PEHL

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl, 101, nee Anita A. Steitle of Fredericksburg and formerly of Luckenbach, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Joyce Emilena Holtzer Arlt

Joyce Emilena Holtzer Arlt, 77, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and formerly of Castell, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Graveside services and interment of the ashes in the Castell Methodist Church Cemetery is planned in the coming months.

Mrs. Arlt was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Austin, and was the adopted daughter of Emil Holtzer and Lena Hoffmann Holtzer of Castell. She married William Theodore Otto (Sonny) Arlt in Fredericksburg on Nov. 5, 1955. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1992.

She attended the Castell School until fifth grade and then finished her education in Llano where she graduated from Llano High School in 1955.

She moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado on April 1, 2012.
