Laura Giles Dreiss Bradfield

Laura Giles Dreiss Bradfield, 99, of Comfort, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Comfort.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.

Mrs. Bradfield was born May 22, 1915, in San Antonio, the daughter of Paul Moreau Dreiss Sr. and Beatrice Giles Dreiss. She married Thomas Edward Bradfield on April 12, 1939, in San Antonio. He preceded her in death in 1991.

Mrs. Bradfield was instrumental in the founding of the Comfort Public Library. She was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church, and for nearly 50 years, wrote a weekly newspaper column, “Persimmon Hill Ramblings,” for the Comfort News.

Mrs. Bradfield is survived by three daughters, two sons and spouses, including Amy Bradfield, Thomas G. and Kathy Bradfield, Bebe and Allen Hammock, Betty K. Poyo and Mark Belin, and Edward and Maryberry Bradfield.

Dahmen Brown

Dahmen Brown, 77, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015.

A memorial service is planned at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Brown was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Olean, New York, the son of Morlyn Brown and Grace Dahmen Brown. He married Mary Gallagher on Aug. 8, 1988, in Kent Woodlands, California, and she survives.

Brown earned an MBA at the University of Chicago. He was a municipal bonds broker.

In addition to his wife, Mary Gallagher of Fredericksburg, Brown is survived by a daughter, Darcy DeAnn Kendrick and her husband, Steven, of San Clemente, California, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gloria DeCesare.

Memorials may be made to Peterson Hospice, Hill Country Community Needs Council, Dictionary Project or to the charity of choice.

Lois Mae Christman, 82, nee Altstatt, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, in the chapel at Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Irene Braeutigam Hohmann

Irene Braeutigam Hohmann, 96, nee Baag, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home, with interment following at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Memorials may be made to Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Dorthy Reeh Mauldin


DORTHY REEH MAULDIN

Dorthy Reeh Mauldin, 74, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Vocalists during the funeral included Rick Bailey, James Bailey, Stevie Farrington and Wendy Schmidt.

Interment followed at the Christadelphian Cemetery at Stonewall.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Feb. 12.

Mrs. Mauldin was born July 2, 1940, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Erwin Reeh and Cora Klein Reeh. She married Allen Mauldin on Sept. 12, 1959, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2012.

Until her retirement, Mrs. Mauldin worked at Security State Bank & Trust as vice president of new accounts.

Charles Ray Owen

Charles Ray Owen, 63, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory of Kingsland.

Owen was born Aug. 24, 1951, in Hays County, the son of Theodore Elbert Owen and Josephine Alberta Allen Owen.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.

William Jon Schlieper

William Jon Schlieper, 53, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015.

A memorial service is planned at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Schlieper was born Sept. 9, 1961, in Queens, New York, the son of James William Schlieper and Frances Muriel Kinder Schlieper.

He is survived  by his mother, Frances Muriel Kinder Schlieper of Fredericksburg; one sister, two brothers and spouses, including James and Mona Schlieper of Alice; Mark and Diane Schlieper of Edinburg, and Cheri and Teo Zapata of New Mexico.

Schlieper was preceded in death by his father.

MARK HENRY SOLBRIG

Mark Henry Solbrig, 51, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, in an Austin hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Larry Adams officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening and Friday morning at the funeral chapel.

Solbrig was born Feb. 23, 1963, in Fredericksburg, the son of Dayton Solbrig and Betty Koennecke Solbrig.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Koennecke Solbrig, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Curtis Tatsch, all of Arkansas.

Solbrig’s father preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Billy Nugent, Keith Novian, Mike Meier, Jarrod Usener, Darcy Tatsch, Keegan Tatsch, Rick Brodbeck and David Crittell.

Mary Denise Young


MARY DENISE YOUNG

Mary Denise Young, 60, nee Taylor, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Higginbotham officiating. Theresa Covin was the pianist, and Gary Covin and Vic Watson, vocalists.

Visitation was held Saturday morning at the church.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Young was born March 5, 1954, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the daughter of David Taylor and Etoie Hodges Taylor. She married Tommy Young on April 28, 1990, in Beaumont and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Young is survived by a step-son, Kenneth Young of Austin; two step-grandsons; a brother and sister-in-law, David and JoNell Taylor of Nederland, and her father, David Taylor of Beaumont.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a step-son, Steven Young, and her sister, Diane Watson.
