The staff of Frontera Health Network Clinic, located at 140 Industrial Loop, held an open house Friday as a part of National Health Center Week.

The center offers services for Medicare, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program clients and offers vaccinations. The center, open just under a year ago, also features an all-bilingual staff and an after-hours nurse.

While some private practices are curtailing federal program recipients, Beatris Morales, client services representative, said they are seeking out Medicaid patients. They have a sliding cost scale for services for uninsured patients.

“We exist to serve low-income patients,” Morales said. “It is difficult to afford health insurance, even if clients are enrolled in the Affordable Care Act. Oftentimes, the deductibles are so high, it makes the monthly premium unaffordable.”

The clinic, opened one year ago, is seeking more patients. It is part of a six-office Frontera Health Network, which also operates offices in Brady, Junction, Mason, Menard and Eden.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. (They are closed on Wednesday.) An after-hours nurse also is available.

“We’re trying to raise our profile and get people to use these services,” said Carol Freeman, family nurse practitioner. “It’s a burden for everyone when people use the emergency room for basic medical care. We are a better option.”

The clinic also offers physical exams for the entire family, primary and preventative care, acute care, immunizations and prenatal care.
