PCAA to host Austin variety band Sunday

The “Top Variety Band in the USA” (as named by Gigmasters, Inc.) will offer a free, open-air concert Sunday, July 27, on Marktplatz.

Groove Knight, an Austin-based band known for its high energy dance tunes, will perform in the Adelsverein Halle (the downtown square’s largest pavilion) from 6:30-8 p.m. as the next installment in the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance’s (PCAA’s) “Concert in the Park Series.”

Those planning to attend are invited to either bring lawn chairs and blankets or arrive early to secure some limited picnic table seating. Attendees are also encouraged to bring along their own refreshments or picnic suppers.

Comfortable shoes are a “must” for attendees, since dancing is encouraged throughout the band’s approximate hour-and-a-half-long performance.

Groove Knight musicians have been entertaining audiences for more than two decades, performing for countless events from banquets and weddings to night clubs, college shows, jazz festivals, live radio and television and aboard major cruise lines.

The group’s playlist spans music from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s through today and prides itself on music that sounds just like the original artists performing live.

Among hundreds of songs, the band performs a range from George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning” to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” to the Drifters’ “Under the Boardwalk.”
