New lock and key: Gillespie sheriff shows progress

Sedalco Construction is making progress on the future Gillespie County Jail, located on Industrial Loop immediately
behind the Gillespie County Law Enforcement Center. The two-story, $15 million bond approved structure due for
completion in December will consist of a total of 47,650 square feet, 30,930 square feet primarily for the first-floor jail and related support facilities, including a kitchen, laundry room and booking area, plus another 16,720 square feet for the second floor’s courtroom, probation offices, combined city/county dispatch center and an emergency operations center, which can double as training space. Sheriff Buddy Mills said he has received inquiries from other Texas counties interested in helping Gillespie fill the 144-bed facility by paying to house their prisoners there as well, and that would help offset some costs
