Jack & Adam's Bicycles to open of Fourth of July
By Lisa Treiber-Walter
Josh Allen is “putting the pedal to the metal” to open his Jack & Adam’s Bicycles in Fredericksburg by this Friday’s Fourth of July holiday … but he’s enjoying every minute of it.
“I fell in love with Fredericksburg as a small child and I’ve been trying to find my way back ever since,” Allen said Monday, amid a mostly empty but soon-to-be-filled renovated house at 206 South Lincoln Street.
A Sweetwater native, Allen spent much of his youth at a family ranch in Doss. He earned an economics degree from The University of Texas at Austin, during which time he was employed at the Austin cycle shop bearing the same name. It was there, he said, his love of the outdoors, cycling and triathlons grew.
He spent too many days crunching numbers as a banker, before he answered Gillespie County calling his name.
He said he searched long and hard before he finally came across his shop’s location, which, he said, is situated close enough to Main Street to net some walk-in traffic (he hopes to add bicycle rentals in the near future,) and far enough away so there’s plenty of parking for locals to visit.
It’s Allen’s dream to turn the large gray and white house, with expansive front porch and shady back yard, into more than a bike shop.
