Local youth eyes titles

Fredericksburg Little League continued tournament play as the intermediate baseball team won its district tournament and minor baseball started its season.
Also, adding to the action, the machine-pitch baseball team placed second in its tournament this weekend.
The minor softball team won a warm-up tournament as it prepares for district play.
The boys continued their run through the District 26 tournament on last Tuesday night when they defeated Burnet/Bertram 18-0.
Gary Sorola earned five hits on five at-bats, and Will Sebera hit the long ball twice and brought in seven runs during the game.
Leading the team defensively from the mound was Tucker Elliot, Triston Schubert, Gary Sorola and Jabin Gibson.
The boys, still hot from the night before, faced Blanco on Wednesday night. Fredericksburg All-Stars won the game 26-7. With the win, the boys earned a berth into the finals and a night off.
On Friday night, the boys faced Blanco in the first championship game. Due to the double-elimination format of the tournament, if Fredericksburg boys won, they would be crowned district champions, but if they lost, a winner-takes-all game would be played the next day.
A second game was not needed as Fredericksburg defeated Blanco 13-3 in a game that was called early because of a 10-run mercy rule.
During its district tournament, Fredericksburg All-Stars scored 77 runs and allowed its opponents to score 10 runs.
