Harper man accused of family killings

A Harper man is in jail and faces capital murder charges after he reportedly murdered his wife and granddaughter Friday at their home.

Joseph C. Knight, 67, of Harper, remains in the Gillespie County Jail on a $1 million bond for the fatal shootings of his wife, Karon Knight, 59, and his granddaughter, Barbara Knight, 19, Sheriff Buddy Mills said.

The incident was reported to have happened shortly before 8:06 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Knight residence, at 623 Josephine Drive in Harper, Mills said.

After Knight allegedly killed the two females, he called local law enforcement to turn himself in.

The Texas Rangers are performing an ongoing interview and investigation of the case, but have not released any information on Knight’s mental state, weapons used or other details.

“We don’t have any ‘ifs’ or ‘whys,’ and we know that’s what everyone is waiting for,” Mills said. “We just don’t know what goes through people’s minds.”

One of the victims was employed at Waldos Grocery Store.
