Baseball falls to La Vernia
The young Fredericksburg High School varsity baseball team ended their season Friday night, falling at La Vernia 15-3 in the bi-district round of the University Interscholastic League playoffs.
“These kids fought their tails off all season. Just to get the opportunity to play in the playoffs was a tremendous accomplishment, considering all of the adversities throughout the season,” Fredericksburg head coach Derrick Dietrich said. “For our two seniors, Kody Behrends and Riley Neffendorf, it was a positive way to end their careers. For our returners, it is just the first step to getting this program where it needs to be.”
La Vernia jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and added five more runs in the third to seal the victory.
“We lost to a very good La Vernia team on Friday. They are solid all the way around,” Dietrich said. “They should make a good run through the playoffs. We didn’t help ourselves at the plate or in the field. We had a couple of opportunities early but couldn’t take advantage of them.”
