Three Billies advance to state meet in track and field
Three Fredericksburg High School athletes will go up against some of Texas’ best when they compete in the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
Making a return visit to the state meet that will be held at Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus will be junior Sam Studebaker in the 800 meter run.
Sophomores Lauren Smith will be competing in the pole vault and Chase Whiting will run in the 100 meter hurdles.
“We are excited that Sam is returning to state again and this year we hope to continue to improve from his performance last year now that he has gained the state experience,” said head track coach Dan Aldrich.
“For both Lauren and Chase as sophomores and first time state appearances, we are focused to gain the vital experience for future years and have our best performance of the season to see where we finish,” Aldrich said.
Smith will vault on Friday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. and Whiting and Studebaker will run on Saturday, May 10, at noon.
The three qualified for the state meet earning top marks at the Region IV-3A Track Meet last week at Texas A&M Kingsville.
“Our kids did an outstanding job of representing Fredericksburg over the three days in Kingsville,” Aldrich said. “I am very proud of our group this year as they supported each other in their events rather than being focused on the individualism of the sport that can sometimes hurt a team.”
