Fredericksburg High School’s girls’ and boys’ golf teams won twin fifth places in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State 3A Golf Tournament.
Both teams did an “outstanding” job over the two-day contest held Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29, at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort course in Bastrop, according to FHS Coach Janie Guynes.
“I’m very proud of both of these teams,” she said once the final holes were complete last night.
While the Billie squads both won regional championships for the first time in the FHS program’s history back on April 15 in Corpus Christi, the state course posed a tougher challenge for the FHS shooters.
“It’s long and there were just more hazards and very tough greens. The greens were extremely fast,” Guynes said.
Indicative of the course’s advanced level was the fact that scores across the board (not just for Fredericksburg, but also for all participating teams) seemed higher than at district and regional and “even higher than other state tournaments of the past,” Guynes said.
