For the first time in the Fredericksburg High School golf program’s history, both boys’ and girls’ varsity squads won first places at region.
The state-ticket earning wins came yesterday, April 15, after two days of rounds on greens in Corpus Christi — the Billies playing at the Gabe Lozano Sr. Golf Course, while their female counterparts played at the same time at Oso Beach Golf Course.
“Both teams stepped up to the challenge and played their games as a team,” said FHS Coach Janie Guynes.
“Maintaining our first-day leads and winning both divisions exemplifies the determination and character of our players,” she added.
The first-place trophies give the FHS golfers little time to rest, as they turn their golf carts around and head straight away into the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 3A State Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29, at the Hyatt Woldfdancer Golf Club in Lost Pines.
