Longhorn track second at District 27-1A meet

Harper High School earned second place team trophies in the girls’ and boys’ categories in last week’s District 27-1A track and field meet held on the campus of Junction High School.
The top four athletes in each event will now advance to the area meet slated tomorrow, Thursday, April 10, at Harper.
The HHS girls captured five first place honors during the meet in three individual and two team events.
Payton Reid took the top spot in the pole vault with a height of nine feet even. Meanwhile, Megan Myers won first place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.60, with Taylor Reid finishing first in the 300 meter hurdles in 47.81.
The 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relay squads earned top honors in times of 1:47.90 and 4:08.37, respectively. Both teams are made up of Sydney Collins, Taylor Reid, Payton Reid and Megan Myers.
On the boys’ side of the ledger, Harper earned six first place ribbons, all in individual events.
The long jump went to Jacob Fritz for a distance of 19’5.75”, while Losson Brooks took the triple jump with a 40’9.5”. Micah Middleton captured the high jump with a height of 5’10”, with Guy Stevenson going 11 feet even in the pole vault.
