Nine advance out of district tennis

A “rare” feat has been accomplished by the Fredericksburg High School (FHS) varsity tennis team for a second time in as many years.
A total of nine Billie netters have emerged fresh out of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 27-3A Tennis Tournament as qualifiers for the regional meet later this month.
“It was a great job by the kids across the board,” said FHS Coach Randall King, whose squad accounted for three division title wins, as well as a second-place finish, two third-place takes and more when the regular-season ender pitted six schools in battle for the league’s top spots on local courts here Thursday through Saturday, March 27-29.
“We built accordingly for this tourney and our players saw marked improvement from Day One,” King said.
With the district meet over and done a week earlier than in previous years, “that gives us a long stretch to prepare for regionals,” King said.
The UIL Class 3A Regional Tennis Tournament is slated for Wednesday and Thursday, April 16-17, in Corpus Christi.
The UIL State Tennis Tournament is set for April 28-29 in College Station.
