Arrest for pot possession results in felony charges
An ongoing narcotics investigation and a routine traffic stop resulted in the form of a big marijuana bust, according to Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) Detective Terry Weed.
The seizure took an estimated $2,500-$3,000 worth of narcotics off the street, Weed said.
FPD Patrolman Cliff Hirl made the traffic stop around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14, and reported he smelled the odor of marijuana as he approached the car.
The odor gave Hirl probable cause to search the vehicle, and he discovered about 128 grams (a little over 4.5 ounces) of marijuana in packaging in the vehicle, Weed said.
Arrested with a charge of “Possession of Marijuana - over four ounces and under five pounds” — which is a state jail felony — was Saul Johnathan Reza Jr., 27, of 508 Deer Creek in Fredericksburg, Weed said.
