Netters to host Hill Country Championships
By Lisa Treiber-Walter —
Facing some “heavy hitters,” Fredericksburg High School’s varsity tennis team will find itself in a warm-up for district as it hosts the Hill Country Championships this Thursday through Saturday, March 20-22.
Rounds start each day at 8:30 a.m. on courts at the Fredericksburg High School (FHS) campus and at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.
Posing a challenge on local courts will be the likes of reputable 5A programs, including San Antonio Marshall and San Antonio O’Connor, said FHS Coach Randall King.
“We’ll also see all our usual district players, except Canyon Lake and Navarro, at this tournament,” he said.
Other schools expected to compete include Ingram, Mason, Junction, Bandera, Smithson Valley, Boerne High, Kerrville Tivy, Taft, Hondo, Wimberley, Llano, Marble Falls, Rocksprings, Holmes, Comfort, Menard and Brady.
The Billies will then turn around in a week’s time to host the University Interscholastic League District 27-3A Tennis Tournament. Varsity matches will be Thursday and Friday, March 27-28, and junior varsity and freshman matches will be Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.
