Fredericksburg netters win title at Clemens/Steele
By Lisa Treiber-Walter —
Proving they can dominate in unfamiliar territory, the Fredericksburg High School varsity tennis team ousted seven other schools to take the team trophy in their first appearance in the Clemens/Steele Spring Invitational over the weekend.
The Billie netters mustered 102 points overall to lead over North Crowley (85 points), Brandeis (79), Brownsville Hanna (71), San Marcos (70), Steele (67), Clemens (65) and Corpus Christi King (55).
Playing in less-than-tennis-like weather, with cold and wet windy conditions, the Fredericksburg’s girls’ doubles team of Grace Igarta and Myra Powell won their draw.
Next up, the squad will take a rest over Spring Break and most of the week after in order to prepare to host the Hill Country Championships on home courts Thursday through Saturday, March 20-22.
