Heritage girls finish second at state
By Danny Hirt —
Heritage School’s dream season for the girls’ basketball team ended in a nightmare Saturday afternoon as the Lady Eagles dropped the TAPPS 1A championship game, 61-43, to Granbury North Central Texas Academy.
The contest was played Saturday afternoon in the Timberview High School gymnasium in Mansfield.
The Lady Eagles had earned the right to vie for the state championship by downing San Antonio Gateway Christian School, 40-36, on Friday. The semifinal action was hosted by Mansfield High School.
“This weekend was an absolutely wonderful experience for these girls and one that they will remember forever,” said Heritage head coach Mike McKinnon.
Lady Eagles Kami Jones, Christina Harpold and Allie Metzger were named to the all-state tournament team.
Heritage ended its dream season with a 19-4 record.
McKinnon summed up the 2013-14 hoops campaign as “truly a David and Goliath kind of season as we were outsized in most of our contests. However, we were blessed with victories over and over again.”
