Softball places third at Tivy tourney
The Fredericksburg High School varsity softball team will be back on the road Friday night after finishing third at the Kerrville Tivy tournament over the weekend.
Last night, FHS defeated Hondo 9-3 on the road. A full game recap will appear in next week’s edition.
The Billies will travel to Lampasas Friday for a 6:30 p.m. contest before hosting Llano Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Fredericksburg finished 4-2 over three days of competition to place third at the Kerrville Tivy tournament held Thursday through Saturday.
Pitcher Macalah Jenschke (four wins) and senior Camry Weinheimer (two home runs) were named to the all-tournament team.
The Billies opened with a 4-0 victory over Class 5A San Antonio Marshall, led by a home run from Weinheimer.
FHS then jumped all over 2A Blanco in a 14-4 win as “we jumped on them early, we hit the ball well and took advantage of some errors,” Coach Mitchel Etzel said. “We got good pitching by Macalah (Jenschke) and got a good win versus a quality team.”
The Billies then fell in their third contest of the tournament, 15-0, to 5A Corpus Christi Carroll.
“We threw strikes and they hit open spots on the field,” Etzel said. “We struggled with a very good pitcher and when we did put the ball in play their defense made good plays. It was our third game of the day and we were a bit fatigued, they got to us early and we never got anything going.”
