Harper girls fall in regional finals

By Danny Hirt

The Harper High School Ladyhorns got close to the mountaintop but just couldn’t travel any further as they dropped the Region IV-1A girls’ basketball championship game to Weimar, 51-45, on Saturday in the New Braunfels Canyon High School gymnasium.

Harper had advanced to the title contest by downing Falls City 52-45 the day before, also at Canyon.

Weimar now goes on to the state Final Four, joining Kerens (Region III), Santo (Region II), and Plains (Region I). The semifinal and final games will be played later this week.

The Ladyhorns finish the season with a 26-9 overall mark.

Weimar 51, Harper 45

Despite jumping out to a quick 20-9 lead after one quarter of action, Harper couldn’t contain Weimar as the Lady Wildcats pulled to within one point at intermission (29-28). Weimar then took the lead (42-35) by the conclusion of the third period, eventually winning 51-45.

Taylor Reid led the Ladyhorns with 11 points while Logan White picked up nine points and nine rebounds.
