Fredericksburg High School varsity girls’ basketball team saw their season come to an end on Friday night when they were eliminated from post-season play by El Campo.
Playing in the area round at Goldie Harris Gym in Seguin, the District 27-3A third-place Billies fell to the Ladybirds, 37-34.
“Tonight just wasn’t our night,” said FHS head girls’ basketball coach Carrie Grona. “We hit 19 percent from the field and as my high school coach used to say, ‘we couldn’t hit water while sitting in the boat.’”
She said, “It was true, I saw more shots roll in and out tonight than I have my whole coaching career.”
Grona said, “Our goal all season was to hold teams to less than 40 points. Defensively, that’s a good night.”
“We gave it everything we had and pushed ahead by three at the end of the third quarter and El Campo shoots a last second shot from behind the half court line to tie it up,” Grona reported.
