Netters finish second at Mason tournament
By Lisa Treiber-Walter —
Building steam, the Fredericksburg High School varsity tennis team will tuck a second-place in its belt from this past weekend’s tournament and forge ahead back to Mason for the Hill Country Classic this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22.
“It’ll be a tougher tourney this weekend, with stronger Class 5A competition,” said FHS Coach Randall King, following his squad’s second-place team finish in last weekend’s eight-team competition at Mason High School.
“The Hill Country Classic is always a good challenge for us every year,” he said, adding that, afterwards, there will be an open week for his varsity players — giving them a chance to rest and rehab any injuries before moving ahead with the second half of the spring season.
The Billie netters put in an effort that earned a total of 152 points for second place in the Puncher Shootout in Mason on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
