Gillespie 4-H BB gun contest set Saturday
Young marksmen will be using the skills and knowledge they have learned over the past six weeks on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they compete in the 2014 Gillespie County 4-H BB Gun Competition.
Approximately 80 shooters in the first grade through 15 years of age will be competing in the county-level event in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
The competition begins at 8 a.m. and includes shooting in four positions — sitting, standing, prone and kneeling — and a written test.
A hamburger lunch will be served around noon and the awards presentation will follow the meal at around 2 p.m.
This year for the first time, an Orion scoring system will be used. In this system, scoring is done by computer, rather than manually.
Awards will be given in each age group as well as for the top three overall shooters.
