Heritage girls win three straight

By Danny Hirt

While the Heritage Lady Eagles cruised to three wins in the last week, things don’t get any easier as the end of the regular season looms in the near future.

Following those three victories — 63-24 over San Marcos Hill Country on Thursday, 60-28 over Castle Hills on Saturday, and last night’s 39-27 defeat of Rainbow Hills in San Antonio — the Lady Eagles will play four games in the next six days.

On Thursday, they travel to San Antonio Gateway for a 6 p.m. game. Saturday, Heritage takes off for San Angelo to face Cornerstone at 2 p.m., followed by Monday’s make-up game at home with Seguin Lifegate. The regular season finale finds the Lady Eagles hosting Selma River City Believers on Tuesday, Feb. 11, starting at 6 p.m.

Heritage 39, Rainbow Hills 27

The Lady Eagles opened with a burst of 17 points in the first quarter while holding host San Antonio Rainbow Hills to only a single bucket as Heritage won by a 39-27 margin Tuesday evening.

“The Lady Eagles have been plagued with sickness and injury of late and still managed to get a win against a very strong Rainbow Hills team,” said Heritage head coach Mike McKinnon.

Double-digit scoring from Christina Harpold and Jones — with 27 and 18 points, respectively — helped the Heritage girls’ team blow past San Antonio Castle Hills 60-28 in a game played Saturday in the Fredericksburg First Baptist Church gymnasium.

“The Lady Eagles were down two players and were forced to run with six girls for Saturday’s game against a very physical team,” McKinnon said. “We are not a one-dimensional team and can attack from anywhere on the floor, which has been a part of our success to this point.”
