Girls' basketball advances to playoffs
Regular season play may have come to an end, but the Fredericksburg High School varsity girls have more basketball to play.
That’s because the FHS varsity squad finished third in District 27-3A and earned a spot in the post-season playoffs.
The FHS girls defeated Bandera, 45-24, on Tuesday night and won over Wimberley, 60-58, in overtime on Friday night to finish 6-4 in District 27-3A.
“Finishing 6-4 in our district is not an easy accomplishment,” said Carrie Grona, head girls basketball coach.
“It was a hard-fought 6-4 and I am so very proud of these ladies,” Grona added.
Fredericksburg will face San Antonio Sam Houston in the bi-district playoffs Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Boerne Champion.
Boerne won District 27-3A with a 9-1 record while Navarro was second with an 8-2 district record.
Also making the playoffs with a fourth-place finish in the standings is Wimberley at 5-5.
(This year, four teams from each of the 3A districts are eligible to advance in post-season play.)
Rounding out the district standings was Bandera at 2-8 and Canyon Lake at 0-10.
