Boys' basketball on track for district title game
By Matt Ward —
Despite a 60-51 home loss to Bandera last night, the Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ basketball team can secure a District 27-3A championship with a pair of victories this week.
On Friday, FHS defeated Wimberley on the road 63-38.
The 23rd ranked Billies will host Canyon Lake on Friday night before travelling to Boerne on Tuesday for the regular season finale. Tip-off in both contests is slated for 7 p.m.
Bandera 60, FHS 51
Missing two players due to the flu and suffering from early foul trouble, the Billies led early, but a halftime lead gave Bandera the momentum needed to defeat Fredericksburg 60-51 Tuesday.
“It was just one of those games where nothing goes right,” FHS head coach Tim Kaman said. “I thought we really played hard tonight, but we just did not play real smart.”
Fredericksburg led for most of the first half until a late Bandera run in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs the lead and momentum going in the final 16 minutes.
“We were a little short handed tonight, not having Brian (Watson) or Travis (Koenig) because of the flu, and we end up getting in foul trouble early which really put us in a bind,” he added. “Austin (Rodriguez), who was also battling flu-like symptoms, came out on fire hitting his first four three pointers, but he just ran out of gas. I was really proud of our effort. I thought we gave everything we had. It was just not enough.”
