Boys' soccer falls to Wimberley
By Lisa Treiber-Walter —
Although “revenge is a dish best-served cold,” last night’s below-freezing, game-time temperatures didn’t seem to help the Fredericksburg High School varsity boys’ soccer team make up for its 2013 loss to Wimberley when the schools last met.
The Billies — like the mercury — fell in FHS Stadium last night, Jan. 28.
Ricky Martinez guarded the goal all night as Fredericksburg dropped to the Texans, 1-0, to bring the early, pre-district count to 3-5-1.
“We played really well tonight, but we gave up a goal on a defensive mistake with 10 minutes left in the first half and then that was it,” said FHS Coach Shannon Petsch.
In spite of the cold, Fredericksburg’s players played well, Petsch contended. “When we came out the second half, we really started to take control,” he said.
“We took about 10 more shots on goal than they did, but could not hit the back of the net,” he said.
The Texans did manage to find the net within boundaries at least once and that remained the 1-0 score.
“I’m real happy with how we played and cannot wait until Friday when we play Marble Falls again and get to see our improvements,” Petsch said.
